I sold a brass steam golem hooha, bearly use--er blessed by a mythic dwarven runecaster with intricate batterns and etchings round its outside and still in perfect functioning order regarding it's use. Sold it to a kinky gnome potion merchant for 800 gold. Have I been conned? Should I have sold it for more?
What does the collective think?
PS: (If you are wondering I used my engineering skill to find valuables within the remains of a huge brass steam golem we somehow managed to slay. Upon which the grumpy DM mentioned that I found that brass hooha... which I pocketed of course. Advanced looting +50 points)

While I am sure that it could technically be worth more, in the sense that runecasted items are likely cost more to make....
You got 800 extra gold from a use of a skill... AND you got a brass 'toy' out of your pocket (which would do who knows what to your rep if people found you with it). I would just cut it there and say it was a win.

800 extra gold is plenty quite honestly. The latter rep part...my loots include a werewolf gentlemans sausage.
Will have to open a new post on some tips what I could do with all the loot, it seems our DM wants me to use/sell it in creative ways.

....yeah, the brass bits could have just been taken as a joke where the GM was slightly annoyed that you found something he hadn't thought about.
But what is the story about the wolfy bratwurst? Was that the result of a knowledge (nature) check?
Admittedly, I can see various ways that monster genitalia could end up as loot. Ignoring the idea that you can sell it to people of certain....tastes... I know that in real life, carmine is a bright red dye which is used in dying flowers, inks, paints, and food products (look at the ingredient list for your yogurt and juice for 'carmine' or 'cochineal extract'), and this dye in fact comes from a type of insect. And while they all produce this chemical (and can be crushed up for it), it is found in the greatest amount in the female eggs sack. Using that as an example, I could imagine a quest where the king's tailor would send you on a giant bug hunt (get to the queen!) to get materials for the princess' wedding dress (and this quest could be used to get contacts in the higher levels of the court, moving the campaign along)
So seeing some of these things as unique ingredients for chemical, alchemical, and magical processes would not be too unusual... but for the most part, these seem to be just crude novelties from what we have been told.
I fear I might have partly been at fault for such items popping up. You see when monsters kept not dropping items that were of use to me I (as the only Chaotic one in the group that actually acts chaotic) butchered one or two orcs...Just to see if they kept any hidden gems or gold as in the Novel Papillon.
Also the thought just struck me that in the werewolf fight our rogue got bitten and won Lycantrophy. The magic werewolf man wand could be used as a cure... mayhaps, our DM is pretty twisted at times.

Well, it would certainly be a powerful symbol. I would say turning its sire (or whatever you call the were-daddy) into a soprano would be enough to make the rogue's inner wolf run with its tail between its legs. I'm sure you could find a druid or cleric that could do something with it.
Looking up some material on the weirder Chinese medicines could give you more variety in your odd, organ-y loot. I am sure there is someone out there that would buy powdered demon horn, or the like.
And generally, livers are always good. Most nutritious part of the animal most of the time (it is kind of the chemical factory of the body). It was a common treatment in premodern times since eating it was the next best thing after a vitamin shot.

I'm mostly just put off by the apparently huge inclusion of wangs and genitalia in general in this campaign.
In any event, there isn't anything rule wise about this. Your GM made up some "loot" and eventually gave you 800 gold for it. I'd just take it and stop worrying over it.

I would imagine it would be more of a ranger thing, but yeah, this generally seems within reason. I would avoid doing it on humanoids, but most of creatures are fair game. Waste not want not, and all that.
While I wouldn't want to add such to my 'treasure table', in the local tabletop game where a half-ogre entered chained to a wall as arena-fodder, part of my scene setting was a certain unsympathetic NPC saying, "Me? I'm just waiting for you to get killed. Already sold your stones to a witch!"
