Just wanting to double check buying armor for PFS

Pathfinder Society

Alright, I think I have things right but I want to make sure.

I'm looking to pick up Dragonhide Agile Breastplate for my Dragon Disciple Druid. Dragonhide costs twice as much as masterwork armor. So masterwork Agile Breastplate would be 400gp + 150gp, 550 gp. Thus Dragonhide would be 1100.

My character has 9 prestige so he should be able to buy this armor.

Am I correct, or did I miss something. Also, silly question, but the Dragonhide armor counts as masterwork for the reduced ACP correct?

Yep, it's masterwork. Have you checked out leaf armor? It's good especially if you have a high Dex.

Yeah looked at it, but my druid has lower dex (only a +1). So need something with a bit higher ac boost.

Grand Lodge 4/5 **

Ah, ok. Go with Dragonhide.

Alternatively you could spend 2pp and get a Dragonhide Breastplate, as opposed to 1100gp for a Dragonhide Agile Breastplate.

Or, since your Dex is only +1, save up 3300gp for Dragonhide Plate.

I would go for something heavier, but I'm looking to go into DD and want to be able to cast the spells in medium.

Erm, how many Druid levels are you planning to take? And why? Dragon Disciple only adds to Arcane spellcasting, not divine. I'm probably missing something about this character concept.

It's really just a strange concept I had when I needed a healer for a game I was jumping into. I'd never made a druid so decided to try. Since then, the only thing that has really cemented with him was the fact I wanted to do a dragon-themed druid, so Dragon Disciple was something I was shooting for.

I know that it only add to arcane casting, I plan to use the Skald from the ACG to get the casting I need. That's why I need to stay in medium armor since Skalds can cast in medium without arcane failure.

if you take a look at the Guide to organized play, in chapter 5 under the section on buying equipment, you will see that Dragonhide is not on the always available list, meaning that you would need access from an AR to buy it.

Isn't Dragonhide in the CRB? If so, as long as his fame score is high enough to cover the cost, he can purchase it.

Yeah, it's not always available, but can be purchased if you have enough fame to unlock it.

Yeah I understand the fact that i need enough Fame to be able to purchase it, I should have enough with 9 fame at the moment and getting close to finishing another game. Was just checking my math to make sure that I had the cost right, so I had enough fame.

Oh, I assumed you had that one straightened out. Those responses were towards Vrog...at least mine was.

As was mine. I was just pointing out that, since Dragonhide is in the CRB, it doesn't have to appear on the AR document, or a chronicle, for you to be able to get it.

It's a misconception held by many I've encountered, especially more veteran players, probably due to the fact that a couple Chronicles open up Dragonhide as an option, even though it's already an option with enough Fame.

Oh sorry Snig, Mark.

Yeah I had to read through the guide a couple of times, trying to figure out why Dragonhide wasn't always available, but something like Adamantine was.

It is really, really weird. It drops the cost of elemental resistance enchantments, but you can't afford those until you have fame out the wazoo anyway.

I guess maybe there were trying to simulate the fact that someone has to kill and skin a dragon to get you the hide, not an easy feat to accomplish. But then again, finding ore from a space rock shouldn't be that easy either.

Oh well, thanks for the info guys, I should be picking up my new duds beginning of next game. Just in time for GenCon.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I think the joke has been that the Decemvirate are actually Dragons, since they hoard powerful artifacts and disallow Dragonhide.

Never cut a deal with a dragon.
