Defiant Klar and Shield Master

Scarab Sages

So I'm reading the descriptions of Defiant and Shield Master, and I can't figure out how these interact. I'm still new, and a defiant klar and shield master are making my brain melt.

1:Shield Master ignores penalties for attacking with the shield while wielding another weapon. Does that only apply to shield bashes? or is there some penalty I'm ignorant of when attacking with a klar?

2:It also adds the shield's enhancement bonus to attack and damage rolls as if they were weapon enhancements. does that mean a klar enhanced as a shield for +n is also a +n weapon when attacking with it?

3: Defiant states "Against the designated foe, the item's enhancement bonus to AC is +2 better than its actual bonus and provides DR 2/— against attacks from that foe. This increase in enhancement bonus applies only to the armor or shield's enhancement bonus..." Does that mean that with shield master that against my designated foe my weapon enhancement is +2 higher than normal?

1) Shield Master is talking about the TWF penalties. There are no other penalties specifically associated with a Klar under consideration.

2) Yes. Normally, you'd need to enhance it separately with defensive and offensive bonuses. Shield Master lets the defensive bonus pull double-duty.

3) Yes. Lets say you've got a +1 Defiant Klar. Without Shield Master, you just get your +1 Shield bonus to AC and you suffer TWF penalties when you use TWF rules. Against the shield's designated opponent, the shield gets bumped up to a virtual +3 with DR 2/- vs the designated opponent. This normally applies just to defensive capacity; it went from bumping your AC by +1 to bumping it by +3. But since Shield Master is letting you apply your shield's enhancement bonus as if it were a weapon bonus and Defiant is raising your shield's enhancement bonus, it's working as a virtual +3 weapon against designated opponents.

I was about to comment, but Kazaan has got it spot on here.

I presume if we take this analogy further and add Bane to the Klar, when used in conjunction with Shield Master a +1 Bane (Human) Defiant (Human) Klar would get both boni?

So +5 to attack vs Humans and +5, +2d6 Damage?

In theory, yes, but I'm pretty sure you can't put Bane on shields? I might be wrong here.

Yes, you can. You can enhance a shield as both a weapon and a suit of armor. You can even give it a +1 to AC and be able to apply weapon special abilities to it.

You don't get both bonuses.

Bane enhances a shield's weapon bonus. Shield Master specifically looks at the shield's armor enhancement bonus.

Defiant ups the armor bonus.

So, you'd lose out on the Bane +2, as the weapon and armor enhancements overlap, they don't stack (assuming the armor bonus is higher), but you'd get the +2d6 the same way you'd get +Holy or +Flaming damage.

Also notice, a Klar is a one handed weapon doing d6, where a spiked light shield is a light weapon doing d4. Either text trumps table, and a Klar is just a spiked light shield, OR a klar as weapon is different then a shield, and bashing, for instance, won't affect the klar's damage.

Other then that...a Defiant klar/spiked shield in the hands of a Shield Master is great if you know your enemy. It can also take the enhancement bonus into +7 territory, which is always nice.
