Small sized alchemical weapons?

Rules Questions

1 person marked this as FAQ candidate.

Can alchemical weapons be crafted to be smaller for small sized wielders?
Would they weigh 1 half or 1 quarter?
would they do reduced damage?
Or are they mostly one size fits all?

I'm asking because I'm making a goblin alchemist for a upcoming game and I wanna figure out how many alchemical weapons I can reasonably pack on my person while keeping a light load, and reducing the weight of my stock of alchemical weapons by half could very well be worth the 1 step reduction in damage dice to me.

Sczarni

There are no rules for smaller versions, so they're not available.

Since this must be for a home game, talk to your GM. I'd probably have no problem creating a small-sized alchemist fire that dealt 1d3 instead of the full 1d6 (since it's half as much).

Grand Lodge

The default rules assume alchemical weapons are one size fits all.

That said, by the time you need a lot of them, you should be able to pick up a handy haversack.

Sczarni

He said he's playing a Goblin.

"By the time you need a lot of them" is at level 1 for him.

officiallynope, not that i'm aware of.

I doubt you can makei t smaller with just a damage dice reduction.. since it'llbe smaller and less liquid it's going to have a lot less liquid to cover the splash area enough to actually do damage. feels like therewoudln't be enough volitile stuff to actually get everywhere.

could see a gm allowing it anyway though, for rule of fun. and be bad ass for an alchemist who gets int damage.

There's no RAW for this, so this post is plunging into house-rule land.

Reducing the die seems solid, though without damage bonuses it's going to be pretty pathetic damage-wise. Figuring out how to reduce non-damaging effects (e.g., tanglefoot bag)? That's trickier. Maybe a -2 to DCs for each smaller size category (and +2 for larger)?

Now I'm picturing a titan mauler hauling around a Huge tanglefoot barrel. o_O

Alchemical weapons used by a small character do the same damage and weigh the same as the same used by a medium or large character.

So my gm made a barbarian who's whole schtik was throwing oversized greatswords (A LOT OF THEM).

now I'm imagining that guy throwig a tangle bag the size of a boulder.

Size doesn't matter! Or if you're more into small green guys with pointy ears (it's not a goblin): Size matters not!

There is no RAW on anything being different for different sized characters when it comes to this. To me RAI is: It's just like it is for a medium character.

Otherwise there should be rules, how much more/less damage, weight, cost is for bigger/smaller doses.

As a small character you're in luck. Since armour, weapons and much more equipment weighs less for you it means you'll be able to carry more alchemical weapons compared to a meduim character with the same STR.

Me and my GM have gone with the 1 size fits all bit, since it would be kinda wonky with the splash weapons that don't do damage, just weighing less for no drawback.

I do plan on eventually getting a handy haversack as I tend to be a pack-rat, only thing is I like most of my splash weapons to be ready on my body for quick drawing (going the TWF bomber route), but I suppose having 5 or so of each on hand, and the rest in the sack for after battle reloads would work fine.

Thanks for all the quick feedback, its been helpful! This was my first time starting a rules thread to ask a question, u guys made a great first impression! :)

Grand Lodge

Quickdraw does not apply to alchemical weapons. So whether it is on your body or in a haversack does not change the action it takes.
