So I am new to the PFS gm side of things...I have a group of 6-8 ppl I gm for...lately schedules have been crazy and I figured this might be a good idea to let everyone keep playing but not be committed to one of my crazy campaigns...is there a thread that explains how to get the gm info and how to submit all the necessary info to paizo? Or do I need to apply for something

You do not need to apply for anything to GM PFS.
You will need to create an event to report the games as follows :
Select Pathfinder Society in the top left of the screen
Select My Pathfinder Society (you may need to enter a password)
Select the tab GM/Event Coordinator
Create New Event
If your playes are not PFS registered, while on tab GM/Event Coordinator, download Pathfinder Society Cards.
Hope this helps.

You really, really should try to play a time or two. The guide to organized play is... a little dense, and worried about some very particular information without being the best for getting an overview.
Theres no standard or anything (hence the stars :) )
The basics:
20 point buy.
Most things are allowed, except things that screw with your wealth by level. (no item creation feats for example)
You are a member of a group of murderho.. gentlemen archeologists known as the pathfinder society. Have some reason to either be a member, or at the very least not opposed to working with them. (whats my motivation? Scale isn't the best answer but it does work)
You play the pre printed adventures. Play a game, get a chronicle. Get 3 chronicles, go up a level. Wash rinse repeat.

Got some great advice in here already. If you're looking for easy adventures to start off with, here are a few that are easy, fun, free, and great introductions:
First Steps Pt 1
Master of the Fallen Fortress
We Be Goblins
The second two are modules rather than scenarios, which have slightly different rules for playing, but all that is explained in the Guide to Organized Play mentioned upthread.

Personally, I would recommend starting off with Master of the Fallen Fortress, as the characters are (potentially) offered a field commission as Pathfinder Society initiates at the end, followed by The Confirmation, where the party takes their final test to become full field agents, and then First Steps part 1, which is written assuming the party is a bunch of new "Confirmed" field agents.
Of course, unlike the others zefig mentioned, The Confirmation isn't free...
