I'M BAAAAACK!
Yes, yet another Thread by Brom the Obnoxiously Awesome!
Too many, you say?
NONSENSE!!!
Okay, so I've started a lot of threads lately, especially about advice and about builds and such. Maybe I'm a little addicted. But I haven't been able to play Pathfinder in 2 weeks, ACG is taking FOREVER to come out, and the internet where I'm staying isn't strong enough to properly stream the Dota 2 Internationals. Not to mention how much I LOVE the people on these forums. Always so well mannered and smart.

THAT being said, let's get on to the main topic. I notice that summoners are sort of an oddity. I've never seen one at a table, and I've never even fought them. I notice they don't have much options in the way of Archetypes, spells, and they don't have TOO many abilities...
So, I'm here to discuss the potential power for a Summoner and his Eidilon (Eidolon?), and maybe figure out some fun things we can do with our Eidilon. Tell fun stories, tell war stories, talk about cool build ideas, whatever. As long as it's summoner related, I'm game. I'm gonna be building a summoner pretty soon, I thinks, and I would love to get psyched up for the occasion, and maybe grab some inspiration!

I may as well start:
Does anyone else want evolution that can temporarily turn your eidilon into a weapon? Idk, something simple like a sword or dagger, but still your eidilon.
Honestly, I don't even want it because it would be useful, I mostly just want it because then I would basically be a Meister from Soul Eater.

No no, this isn't advice. It's advice, stories, ideas, etc. Just summoner related stuff. It's advice too, I suppose, but not fully advice. Also

things in advice never get read...

That would be a fun archetype, though I don't know of anything that emulates it. I think a custom-built archetype may be interesting, and may be worry looking into. Look into Dreamscarred Press' Soulknife and Aegis if you're wanting that kind of "forge your own weapon/armour" flavour.

Flavour-wise, Summoners are one of the most flexible things from the ground-up. A ghost friend, a force that you've managed to harness, all kinds of fun things

I'm playing a half-orc barbarian/summoner as one of my main PFS characters, and he's awesome.

His eidolon is a demon that was bound to his bloodline by an ancestor, and he hates the thing. It's a great big demonic cat, part shadow and part fire - thing the balrog from LotR in lion form. Wants nothing more than to hurt people, but that's not what my character is about. He's an enforcer for the Sczarni, sure, but he's not interested in violence without cause. One of his main goals is to break the bond between himself and his eidolon so he can get rid of it. I roleplay him talking to the thing, as it's urging him to evil in his head all the time.

I'm avoiding taking pounce with the eidolon because I think it's pretty overpowered - I'll probably take it around 7th level, when pounce starts showing up on other things like the druid's animal companion list. Other than that he's mostly a combat eidolon, though he's also quite stealthy - he spends a lot of time sneaking around and moving to a flanking position with a climb speed and skilled (stealth) so he can flank with my PC.

For combat, my character himself plays like a barbarian who knows some buff spells. He tends to throw something like enlarge person or shield on himself and then charges into combat with his bardiche.

I would never have even thought of something like that. Are you of the Bloodgod archetype available to Half-Orcs, because that, I think fits very well. I like the concept of two conflicting forces who don't like each other much. Sort of like an old Buddy Cop movie, but one is an evil demon!

I commend you even more sir, for thinking of such a smart back story for your eidolon. I think it's clever to say something other than:
"This is an outsider. There are many like it, but this one is mine."

I'll keep that in mind when I make my Summoner and his/her eidolon.

That archetype was the initial inspiration for the character - I thought it would be neat to play a fighter-type with an eidolon that he fights beside. However, as the concept evolved, it fit less and less well - he doesn't like the thing well enough to make use of its powers and feed it like that. As it stands, he's just a straight summoner (and straight barbarian, though urban barbarian would have fit as well). If there was another archetype that fit to trade out his summon monster abilities, I would be playing that (especially for something like teamwork feats).

The Blood God Disciple is also not PFS legal, which was a consideration for the character too.

It's... it's not?

:'(
Aw man... why you gotta do dis Paizo?
You did this with the Grave Walker too...
I mean I get it's SORTA evil, but...
There's always a gray area, right?
Dang. Well, that's good to know. Thanks. And again, commendation on the awesome idea.
