Has anyone made a thread like this and if not lets build one.

List changes/tweaks you have made or noticed and why. One that I have seen in several places is the inclusion of a Oracle in Thorn's mansion. I intend to do the same myself not sure if im going the DoMT route though. I have also added a second lower basement cell block to Branderscar and am giving the PC's the option of recruiting from it for later down the road. The prisoners will be keeping "guards" busy so the pc's still have to do the lion's share of the work though.

Not a bad idea. I am setting up to run this. I will put any final NPC's here.

Dark Archive

Bump. Come on some out there has something to contribute. Even if its just links to earlier threads.

I thought you meant builds and encounters. There is information out there, but it is scattered, and it would be here also. What I might do is open up a resource website like someone did for Age of Worms, and Shackled City. At least that way things would be organized. <-----No promises. I will report back here on this on Friday or Saturday.

Dark Archive

Thanks. And yeah thats pretty much what im trying to do is create a gm resource thread. I have seen all these great ideas and would love to have them on tap. As I finish my stuff I was planning on putting it here.

I started worked on something, and I will open it up to the public well before it looks nice, just so we can get things going.

So far I have things divided up by book, and each book is divided up like this:

NPC's

Storyline Modifications

Maps and Handouts.

General Advice-This would include things such as tactics for certain fights and how to handle any plotholes that may be found and so on. Basically anything not encountered in the above listed topics.

If you have any other categories let me know. Each book will be divided up in the same manner.

I've expanded the scope of Way of the Wicked, including some subplots and story quests for the characters. I'll post the additions here, as I get them down on "paper."

You can put them here or PM me.

@Divine: The largest book we've done yet. Without any art added we're at almost 70 pages of evil-y awesomeness, with one of the two authors being a well-known person with author credit in many Paizo books. It's about to go to the first round of playtesting in the next day or two.

well let us know when / what is it when ya can

The product discussion threads (here at Paizo) are great resources, answer lots of questions, give alternate builds for NPCs, etc.

Of course the downside is: you have to go through thousands of posts to pull out the good stuff...

Myself personally: our group is currently on Book-6. I have 'adjusted' the setting of this adventure path to be in Paizo's campaign setting: the Inner Sea (specifically Mendev).

So, it's a book about evil characters or about monsters?

Can we help with the playtest?

Ok. Here some notes from my way of the wicked campaign. I hope other people may use my scheme to explain their changes

Detsujin way of the wicked:

1) Talingarde in Golarion: i located Talingarde in the Arcadian ocean, way closer to Arcadia that to Avistan. Talingarde was a product of the Everway, a colony founded in 4100 by few outcast chelis and nidal nobles (barca are of those). I also elaborated a 10 thousand year history for the island, from the azlant occupation to the barcan supremacy! I also put a discrete influence of cheliax in Cardinal Thorn's plane.

2) Talingarde people: i created a cultural background for the dwarf and elfs of talingarde (lots of work) and created a iraen history. To summarize.

Talingarde elfs: mine are ascetic ones, that uses the north part of the island, a site full of spiritual magic, in order to trascend their bodies, becoming either eladrins (azata) or good undeads a la Eberron. They are a secretive society and very, very few of them are ever seen in talingarde.

Talingarde dwarves: mine where a powerful kingdom of city states like ancient greek. Each city had his patron divinity, that was not necessary a god but a great power that symbolize the virtue of the city. Those being where Torag, Erastil, Desna, Dispater and Mephistofel (all of them are known with different name that in other avistan and had a some kind of exarch historically present in the city foundation/maintainment. Barca kings did a powerfull act of almost genocide of this race, exslaving them for more than 150 years and destroying/stealing their vast culture.

Iraen culture: mine are a culture of mixed bloods, basically viewing the many others humanoid monsters in talingarde old brothers with which share a far ancestry. I view them as a cultured divided in tribe, but with a deep history of great rises and terrible falls, most of them caused by extern forces.

Talingarde other races: goblinoids, minotaurs, giants, forest beings and kobolds also received a quick look.

3) Faiths of talingarde: i created a chart about talingarde faiths, or better the lack of many gods. I my talingarde the mitran monoteism is due a "Great Game" played between 3 almost divine forces active in the island (Mitra, Asmodeus and Desna) which have in the millennia kept the human society from rediscover ancient Azlant magic and, possibly, trigger another world changing event. By now, we got the mitran supremacy due a series of victory over the asmodean front, which do not oppose politeism for many reasons.

4) Devils of talingarde: Instead of focusing on Cardinal Thorn conquest with devils as a tool, i elaborate a little story for them that sees a Court of devils active in talingarde (most of them, however, are either bound or unable to influence greatly things). In this situation, the cardinal is working in order to keep power and control to himself instead of sharing it. At the same time, the way Thorn gained power is also a bit different (my thorn is a Mythic Hierophant)

More to come after some interest is shown.

Evil PCs and NPCs. PCs if used in a campaign such as Way of the Wicked, but NPCs otherwise (as a general purpose GM toolbox)

Yes! I'm putting a playtest package together now. Those who wish to participate need to email jreyst@gmail.com with a Google ID (an id that has access to Google Docs.)

I am going to run this in a few months, but I can decide on where to run it in Golarion without changing too much. Hopefully the site can be up by tomorrow or Saturday.

I am preparing to run Way of the Wicked using Kirthfinder house rules.

Any input / suggestions / modifications would be of great interest to me.

And those rules are?

So what kind of sidequests have people ran?

Dark Archive

Im going to send them to the tribal lands up north to recruit the people of the chieftain they meet. If they take the hook. Will report once we get there.

I suggest you to create few sidequest in book 1 and 2, which are very straightforward. Allow your players to explore more Talingarde!

In book three, more celestial renforces! Either pcs find a way to cut them off (i suggest a grandiose sacrifice to an infernal patron in exchange for a 1 mile dimension anchor effect for three months, or similar) or they get legion archon popping everywhere killing burbears and freeing as many alives.

In book 4 screw the city! there is nothing of real interest for pcs there ... but maybe for their goons there is! Offer your player chance to roleplay their minions for the whole month, giving your players back their characters only when is worth it.

It is not finished, but it is good enough to add files.

Way of the Wicked
If you want to add something make a request from the page so I can give you permission.

I had to change the folders to only have them by chapters.

My character has managed to secure the services of Killiketz the Ice Mephit. When I hit level 7 was thinking of using Leadership to make him a cohort (Which the GM seems cool with). Does anyone know of a decent route to take the character? I was thinking a level in one of the magic casters but not sure which one!

He has a decent charisma so maybe bard. His spellcasting as a sorcerer will be pretty far behind the party since he probably counts as a 5th level character before you even add any class levels. His bard levels would make his good for buffs though, and if he gets more intelligence he will be decent with skills since I think outsiders get 6+int.

Just to let people know Fire Mountain Games just released as a PDF "Tales of Talingarde" which is book 7 of Way of the Wicked and is additional content for the adventure path and also contains Minion Quest a side story involving you playing as you might have guessed. Minions.

What that finally came out? I thought we had given up on it

Indeed it is.

Running this now - picked up a few tips from Josh Genti's WOTW blog - especially the timeline for Balentyne.
The Aldencross Gazetteer from WOTW7 is fantastic.

I've made rumour cards to pass out while the party are in Aldencross (can I send anyone the pdf?)

I'm currently working on a few side-quests as they've posed as adventurers (with freckles) and want to help. Havelyn doesn't hold with mercenaries and bounty hunters (no discipline) - but may offer a bounty for bugbear ears or wyvern stings.

The prty is a few days into Aldencross and almost 5th level - I don't want to do too much.

Am I missing something or are there no handouts pdf for the first book (at least when purchased from Paizo)?

As such I have no player maps... which is incredibly frustrating for Act 2 where the map in the main book shows the location of secret doors.

Am I missing something entirely?

There is in fact no handout pdf for the first book.

That being said, the map for Act 2 is really simple, and if you shave off a square from each of the hallways in one direction then you can fit the entire dungeon onto a Paizo flip mat. This is one of those dungeons where you might want to start with a blank flip mat and draw the various pieces as you go. The different rooms are all fairly simple - drawing them on the fly was pretty easy.

Thanks for the confirmation of no handout pdf for book one. That's a shame really.

I actually managed to find a modified version of the map which I have hosted here Nine Lessons Map.

The version originally had both the secret door marks removed from the corridor above the coffins... not sure why. Added them in, and intentionally had the one to the coffin room shown in the corridor - the book says it is obvious from this side.

Hehe yea i did intended to hide all sign of the secret passage between the 8th room and the corridor. In case the group come from one side or the other side : perhaps they find the secret corridor, but not the second secret passage to the next room.

Thanks carborundum for the link.
I actually used this map for Balentyne surrounding :

Oh wow, I actually turned up your campaign in my searching for content for the campaign.

Can I ask Artamos, what did you use to make the map of the Balentyne surrounding? Or did you get it somewhere else?

well its not my campaign actually, i'm also using the map from it for my table game. So i dont know what was used to produce that, but its very very good looking and usefull.

It is incredibly good looking, would love to make similar maps myself.

Sorry for the confusion, thought you were suggesting it was your campaign you linked!

I've been toying with the idea of creating cards inspired by the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game for quests and possibly other things too.

Will post them shortly.

Way of the Wicked Quest Cards

As mentioned above, I have created some mockup Quest Cards for Way of the Wicked. These are more meant as a test, to see how my players and the community likes them.

If they are liked, I'll consider making more for the rest of the book(s) and possibly other things such as items, characters, and so forth.

These make use of the Pathfinder Adventure Card Game templates and I've tried to stick somewhat to their layout. The Adventure numbers are Book-Act... this may not work for all of the quests and may have to change.

Book 1 - Act 1 : Prison Break!
Book 1 - Act 2 : The Nine Lessons

So a couple of questions,

Is there anywhere I can look to get information on setting this in Golarion?

Does anyone know of any issues that could arise with having a player be a Red Mantis Assassin.

I've run WotW a few times so maybe I can help.

Setting it in Golarion isn't too big a deal as it's on a large island as is designed to 'fit' into most settings. I'd recommend you set it west of Varisia in the Arcadian Ocean. The 'mainland' is mentioned only very occasionally in the campaign but changing place names is an easy matter. For example, Verochanza should be Cheliax IMO.

The only issue about Red Mantis assassins is that they don't follow Asmodeus which might cause a few issues. The campaign is, after all, about villains taking over a nation for Asmodeus. Still, I don't think it's a major problem.
