Halfling Cavalier mount

Rules Questions

The Exchange

Hey folks,

I am building a halfling cavalier and wanted to ride a wolf. At 7th level, the wolf would become large. What happens to me at that point? Am I allowed to ride a large creature being small? If not, why would this be an option?

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm having trouble finding it in the rule book.

Yes you can ride a Large Mount being small. But you can also Pick the other option. Somthing like "Instead of taking the listed benefit at 4th or 7th level, you can instead choose to increase the companion's Dexterity and Constitution by 2."

You can either keep your wolf medium or allow it to go large. Either way, you'll be able to continue riding it. If it goes large, the only drawback is that you can no longer use the Ride skill to "fast mount/dismount".
