dc of item effect

Rules Questions

Is it possible within the rules to raise the DC of the effect of a magic item?

Rod of nettles got DC 14, and I would like to be able to raise it for high level games. Currently all my players only fail that roll on a Nat 1

Most magic items that recreate spells recreate them at minimum caster level with the minimum casting stat, resulting in stuff like, well, THAT. You could instead use a staff, which uses the user's caster level and stat, or craft the item at a Heightened (as per the feat) spell level, but the former would require the item used by either a caster or someone with a good UMD skill modifier (and also change the item, period, likely defeating its purpose), while the latter would also vastly increase the crafting cost (and therefor, market value) of the item. Also, not all items copy spells' effects directly; luckily, the rod uses the Poison spell to work off of.

The interesting thing is that the spell poison used to make the Rod of Nettles is normally a 4th level druid spell. The DC should be (at minimum) 10+4(spell level)+2(minimum casting stat 14=+2) which is 16. So I'm unsure how they got 14 with it.

That being said, the way the spell Poison deals damage and the way the Rod deals damage are different, so maybe that has soemthign to do with it. Concievably you can raise the DC by creating the item with higher caster stat/spell slot via heighten, but that should also increase the cost as well. Without doing a complete breakdown I'm not sure exactly how they costed out this item.

Normally it's spell level * caster level * 2000 gp for continuous use item. The rod sort of function like a continuous use poison spell (but not really). That would be 4 * 7 * 2000 for 56000 gp. Where as the rod only costs 18000. So, there is definitely something odd with this item.

Poison is a 3rd level druid spell. IT is a 4th level cleric spell. So the DC would be 10 +3 (Spell level) +1 (minimum casting stat 13 is a +1) which is 14.

Craft the item with Heighten Spell. If it's a wand, you can get a maximum of 16, going by Core. Otherwise, craft it as a Wonderous Item, and continue for a maximum DC of 23.

I was thinking of that FAQ that specified wizard then cleric then everything else, but that only applies to SLA and determining source. I'm not sure why I thought cleric took precedent over druid.
