Witch, Hex and Caster Level

Witch's Healing Hex

This acts as a cure light wounds spell, using the witch’s caster level. Once a creature has benefited from the healing hex, it cannot benefit from it again for 24 hours. At 5th level, this hex acts like cure moderate wounds.

The cure light wounds says caster level, the rest says at 5th level. Is this 5th level caster level or 5th level witch?

If you took a prestige class that added to your caster level, would you still get the cure moderate increase or do you have to have 5 levels in the witch class?

Since it's a Hex - a SU ability you gain from your Witch class I'd read it as you have to be a 5th level Witch to get the cure moderate wounds increase.

Grand Lodge

The 5th level ability refers to the change in the base spell it's based off of.

It changes the caster level in no way.

I don't think you understand the question. The question was, when does the base spell change?

For example, let's say I'm a first level witch, third level rogue, and at my fifth character level I start taking levels in arcane trickster. Every level, this prestige class gives me an additional spellcasting level, including an increased caster level.

So what happens when I hit level 4 trickster (which will be at level 8, total)? I'm now a first-level witch with a caster-level of 5. I have one hex (Healing), a first-level familiar, and so forth.

But does my Healing hex count as CLW or CMW?

Shadow Lodge

When it says "At 5th level", that's referring to 5th witch level, that's when you're able to use CMW for your healing hex.

CMW would then use the the witch's caster level (5th) plus whatever "additional spellcasting levels" your prestige class awards you.

There is a spellcasring class.featureband a hex class feature. A prx in no way increases a witches hex class feature unless it explicitly says so.

The healing g hex the witches hex level for the cl of the clw. Yes the itself has a caster level but it is based on the witches level not cl.

Liberty's Edge

A prestige class increase the feature that it say that it increase. Arcane trickster don't increase the hex feature, so it don't do anything for you hexes. So you need to be level 5 in the witch class to get the ability to mimic cure moderate wounds with the healing hex.

Class abilities always reference "class levels in the relevant class", unless they *explicitly* say otherwise.
