Animate Dead, can you combine corpses?

Rules Questions

So I am wondering, I've always assumed it was not allowed, but can people casting Animate Dead combine the HD of dead creatures to create a higher HD monster?
For instance, they kill 3 level 1 human commoners. There is 3 HD there, could the person casting Animate Dead create a 3HD skeleton or only 3 1HD skeletons?

Most systems contain some forms of conglomerate undead... but that is still GM territory, I'd say.

Nope. There are not rules to allow you to combine monsters.

Look up necrocraft(?) from one of the recent bestiaries(4 iirc). The guidelines for conglomerate type undead are written up there. Mind you it is not something for PCs really, more for GMs looking for some custom monsters to toss at the players.

Those look nice, though I still figure 1 Necrocraft would be inferior to multiple Bloody Burning Skeletons whose HD equals its own.

Sadly no I don't think you can. It just gives more incentive to hunt down giants and the like.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

If it was allowed you could stitch half a giant frog to half a monkey and call it a fronky.

As a GM I'd allow it. Just sew enough bodies together to get to the size category you want. But definatly a GM ruling.

flesh golum

This way you can combine corpses, takes more than just animate dead though.

At Medium? Definitely.

At Large? Iffy. They get some nifty abilities.

At Huge? Becomes a bit more desirable. After all, easier to find 50 human corpses than one Froghemoth corpse or whatever, and your Skeleton/Zombie won't have all these neat abilities.

At Gargantuan? Now you're talking some serious firepower. In army combat, these are worth about 400 men. And it really shows when you use them for something like that.

At Collossal? Well by that time you probably have Create Undead so maybe not. But deffo better than a Burning Skeleton.
