How can I get 'returning' ability that is immediate instead of end of turn?

Advice

I know I saw this.. SOMEWHERE... but now I can't for the life of me remember where I saw it.. not sure if it was mythic, an item, a class ability, or what or even from which book but I am SURE I saw it somewhere. Some kind of ability that let something have the 'returning' special weapon quality but was immediate, so you could use all your iterative attacks throwing the same weapon... Where the heck did I see this?

As far as I know, the only way to do this is to have a Blinkback Belt from Ultimate Equipment and the Quick Draw feat, which will cause your thrown weapon to teleport back to your belt available for you to Quick Draw it for your next attack.

If there's another way, though, I'm interested; thrown weapon characters are always nice.

Paizo products only, that is the only way. I believe I saw a Quick or Fast Returning property in one of the coliseum Morpheuon supplements. +2 enchantment and the weapon immediately returns as soon as you throw it.

Yeah, the blinkback belt is what you want.

The dagger of doubling is an item that has a similar effect, but is just a +1 dagger beyond this ability.

I've always wanted a thrown-weapon build but even the blinkback belt doesn't solve the problem of needing multiple magical thrown weapons for it to be effective. It's just way more expensive than using a bow.

Improving upon the Dagger of Doubling might solve that problem though.

Well, a belt is cheaper than maintaining an extra +1 modifier on each weapon, so there's that. But yes, a bow is always going to be cheaper. I generally keep a throwing weapon (e.g., chakram, throwing axe) on my mostly-melee martials so that I can get in a toss every now and then when it seems appropriate to the situation. I never try for full iteratives unless the character doesn't need magic weapons to do it effectively.

Damn, maybe I saw it in a dream or something... I was so sure.....

Do you read a lot of third party materials? Could it have been from someone other than Paizo? Do you read a lot of their Golarion world guides; those wouldn't be in the official PRD, but would be somewhere like d20pfsrd.

The belt plus Quick Draw does completely remove the need for multiple magic weapons, but yeah, it involves a feat tax and will always been worse than a bow.

As I've said above, check out Right Publishings 101 Weapon Properties.

Fast Returning: This thrown weapon is often wrought with images and engravings of birds in flight. Whenever you throw a fast returning weapon, it returns immediately after it hits or misses and is ready to be used again during the same round. This enables you to make a full attack with the fast returning weapon.
Strong transmutation; CL 12th; Craft Magic Arms and Armor; Quicken Spell; telekinesis; Price +2 bonus.

I believe the weapon enchantment you're looking for is Called. It's a swift action to use, so only two attacks per turn, but it comes back right then. Works even if they catch it with catch arrow too.

I don't really read anything in the way of 3rd party material... I ended up finding what I was looking for, but it wasn't as useful as I had hoped... it is a 3rd tier mythic path ability for heirophant... but it requires spending mythic power for that part of the effect. (and only works for deity's favored weapon, so much for my Captain America plan :P)

The Called enchantment is the best you got.

Not to mention eating up the very important belt slot, unless you can get combined/custom items. And even if combined items are available, the extra 7.5k gold for adding that to your physical stat belt will hurt until you hit upper-mid levels.

There are options in D&D 3E if you can use them. It had nice prestige classes and items for throwers, and its version of Far Shot was much more thrower-friendly, too.

Check out Bloodstorm Blade. It's a 10 level class, but people generally only took 4 levels of it for the abilities to treat (for 1 round as a swift action) thrown attacks as melee (so you can 2H power attack, make weapon-based combat maneuvers from range, etc...) and the ability to instantly regain the weapon after each attack, allowing for full attacks with the same weapon. The other 6 levels are actually also pretty decent, but 3E was nice to martials and had lots of good options for them, so most people preferred 5 levels in Master Thrower or whatever to 6 more in BB.

There is a harrow deck thrower archtype that has the cards return to the deck. (witch archtype I think?)

I don't know if they return immediately, but with 52 cards in a deck, who cares?

There is a Psionic feat Returning Throw that, combined with the Returning ability, makes it immediate.
