Liberty's Edge

I need a witty saying for a race of lizard-men that relays the sentiment of the following statement...

"If one of our race (lizard-men) tells you that someone from this other race (orc) is a friend then that person (lizard-man) is an untrustworthy liar."

There is great animosity between these two races in my homebrew world and I have an entry written that needs some sort of witty retort.

Lizard-men are goodly creatures where as orcs are evil.

Thanks for helping. This one has me stumped today.

Irrie.

Something like:

Never trust a Lizard who likes an Orc?

It's a bit of an old reference, since orcs don't look like this anymore, but... "He'd rather kiss a pig than eat it."

(Orcs in first edition D&D were drawn with pig snouts).

Liberty's Edge

Yes, but witty like...

"A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Providing Orcs still have dull grey skins, and Lizardmen still have green scales:
"A green skin with a grey tongue is a green skin with a black heart"

That one sounds decent. My orcs have tattooes of white ink as well.

Use a proper name, as a historical reference. Rather like our "Beware of Greeks bearing gifts," which only makes sense if you're familiar with the Trojan horse, "Et tu, Brute," a famous statement about personal betrayal, or "Hobson's choice," which refers to a specific person (Thomas Hobson) who didn't offer any choice -- you took what you were offered.

For example, "Terath's friend, Terath's honor," where Terath was a subchieftain who famously betrayed his group of lizardmen to a band of orcs. This also has the advantage of putting the great animosity in a historical context.

"His ink runs green" would work just as well - and it'd be a tad shorter, rolling off the tongue easier...

I'm kinda surprised there haven't been any more suggestions :s

This would have been perfect, except that the insult needs to come from a lizard-man, not an orc.

I might just include it for the orc entry some how. I like it.

Liberty's Edge

I went with "Beware the tainted scale".

Thanks for the suggestions. It is not perfect but it definitely fits for what I needed.

Irrie.

Scarab Sages

"Take no heed of Sssatthasaar. He speaks with forked tongue"

"Errm...Sir?"

"What, is it, minion?"

"Well...we all speak with forked tongue."

"Hmmm. In that case. Take no heed of Sssatthasaar. He is a lying ****."

Sssatthasaar the Half Orc. It's good for graffiti and whispering behind a lizard man's back. It's possibly impossible, like go F*** yourself, and only offensive in the ethnic context.
A lizardman that tries to negotiate with Orcs would find this insult painted on his hut with wild boar blood.
