Build a Cheesecake Workshop

What on Earth is this?
I'm shamelessly stealing this concept from Landon Winkler and Ashiel. It's a bit of a misnomer, I admit. The goal isn't to make more oversexed woman. The goal is to share stories of women who managed to be attractive without being cliche or flashing their cleavage, and to make more.

As GMs, we add NPCs all the time. Nameless faces in the crowd become important parts of the plot, even in APs.

But adding a female romantic interest takes a different sort of finesse, especially if the GM isn't part of the target audience.

So, I propose we start gathering some examples of ones that we've used that have worked. That way, even those of us who find the idea of being attracted to men faintly confusing, can drop them in like any other NPC.

Build a Cheesecake?
Okay, maybe "cheesecake" isn't exactly right here. After all, the point is to avoid cheesecake and still remain viable romantic options.

You can't go wrong with the name, though. Thanks to Ashiel and Landon Winkler for the name :)

Keep in mind when you're showing off your creativity that these are for APs. Have a great romantic rival pirate captain you added for Skull and Shackles that inevitably led to romance? Did your PCs pair off with ambassadors from neighboring kingdoms in Kingmaker? Does your party keep inexplicably falling in love with shopkeepers?

Cheers!

Wow, a thread for female romantic interests and all anyone can talk about is cooking. Oh the horrible subtext that could be read into that... :P

I guess that anybody with half a brain skips this thread when he/she sees the title.

Hello! its a thread with cheesecake mentioned in the title!
i don't know about other parts of the world/country but here in the midwest Nerds are Foodies as much as anything:)

honestly i don't think this thread is needed for what its original intent was for.
the point of the Build your own Beefcake thread was to make up for a lack of male love interests.
there is already enough Female love interests without me piling on:)

and while we're at it, there has gotta be better ways to address the opposite sex then food terms.

thats what happens when you tell the teenager working the counter ''oh, just put the reciept anywhere!''

This strikes me as a thread with a good premise but an unfortunate title...

And yes, I thought this was about the downtime rules as well. D=

The statblocks below were from some bonus material I was cooking up for my Jade Regent game that I never got around to running (it was a tabletop and some of the players ended up with scheduling issues after course times were determined). They've been copy/pasted and mildly edited from a pdf document, so the formatting is pretty horrible (sorry). Still it'll get across the crunch bits.

Yasei No Kazei / Wild Wind
Yasei is a young adult ogre magi who is a combination of spoiled and lazy. She doesn't take her heritage or family ambitions very seriously, and may be found interacting with the party at certain points during the campaign a bit begrudgingly. If her orders land in conflict with the party she's usually fine with having a bit of the rough and tumble but isn't particularly prone to killing and is quick to retreat if things aren't going her way.

Unlike most oni, Yasei tends to lack malicious intent, preferring instead to relax, have fun, and drink. Though viciously strong by human standards, she'd be more than willing to goof off and have a drink with her enemy if her orders didn't specifically require her to be in conflict with them at the time. She enjoys quick wit, immature humor, and respects boldness. She's also a sucker for an arm wrestling challenge, but is prone to acting mildly irritated if she loses to anyone less than a size category larger than herself (and doubly so if they're smaller than herself). Her feigned irritation, however, is generally just an act, and just serves to remind her to pump some iron.

Romantically, Yasei isn't generally thinking about love much, though she might be inclined to a little lustiness from time to time. That's not to say she wouldn't be interested in love, just that it's not something that she's really used to seeing, and frequently she would see it as being too heavy of an emotion to get tied down with. However, she might just need to find the right person.

As far as sexual orientation goes, Yasei is generally attracted to males and is likely to act as a flirtatious aggressor, though she has a weakness for aggressive females. Her romances are most likely to start off as friendships or rivalries, sometimes laden with flirtatious or dirty joking, and then leading in to a bit more in time. If sufficient love was present, she'd consider dropping ties with her oni brethren who are generally too uptight for her tastes and never treated her with much respect anyway (screw all of 'em, she'd say, for a true friend).

She is most likely to encounter players as an antagonist, likely in combat. However, due to her regeneration and gaseous form, getting the better of her is rarely going to happen without some serious effort, and as such she'll usually have enough breathing room to display some personality to the party. In combat she'll usually smack people around with her magic club Moesashi (feel free to make it a mildly Intelligent magic item if you want to give her a sidekick), but doesn't bother finishing off injured enemies. When struck, if the damage is less than her regeneration and not of a type that shuts her regeneration off she'll usually laugh and taunt with phrases like "You hit like a wuss!" or "I don't even wanna fight if you're not even gonna try". Particularly vicious hits (relative to her current HP/regeneration) might provoke responses such as "Ow, calm down! I was only kidding!" or "Whoa, don't be so serious!" or "Watch it punk!". If struck with fire or acid she will panic and shout things like "Ow, ow, ow! No fair, stop it! That's cheating!", "Okay, that's it, no more miss nice guy!", or "Oh *explicative*, I'm so do done with this!"

Due to her relaxed nature, however, it takes a lot to make her hold a grudge (a good fight doesn't bother her, but if the PCs are particularly malicious or hateful she'll be embittered) and so she's just as likely to re-emerge sometime later laughing about the last fight and offering a drink of some rice wine because she's bored to be out on some menial task for her superiors and is glad to see a familiar face.

All in all, Yasei is intended to be a recurring comic-relief character who can provide some fun challenges for the party, while giving them a foe who they might not even want to truly defeat. She can also end up deciding to flake out on the other bad guys to hang out with her PC friends should such things arise.

She's big, beefy, often lacking in sobriety, and hopefully lots of fun.

The way to a man's heart is through his stomach?

2 people marked this as a favorite.

No, no, if you start at the stomach you'll only get to his spinal cord. The way to a man's heart is through his ribcage.

Ribs are pretty effective armor for the heart. You really are better off stabbing up through the stomach.

Rips have little cracks between them. Besides, who said I was stabbing? DRILL, BABY, DRILL!

Ah!

"I listen at the door. What do I hear?"

"The sound of a quarter-inch drill going into your ear. Bzzzzzzzz!"

if its one thing i learned in construction, blunt force trauma is the best way thru the ribs (but boy does it hurt!:)

Somehow I'm not surprised that something hitting you hard enough to break ribs and/or your sternum hurts like hell.
