Persistent Spell + Non-Saving Throw Rolls

Rules Questions

The Persistent Spell metamagic feat causes the victim of a spell to roll their saving throw twice and take the lower result. I know it's not RAW, but what about spells that require a different kind of saving throw, like the CMD roll required by Black Tentacles or Telekinesis? Seems to me to be in the spirit of the feat, what think you?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

The feat specifically lists only saving throws, so as written only effects saving throws.

Black tentacles also isn't the target making a roll, it is the tentacles spell making a grapple attempt, which is definitely outside the perview of the metamagic feat.

Only a saving throw is a saving throw. CMD rolls are not saving throws.

Having actually read the OP: Yes. Totally reasonable.

It says saving throw.
It does nothing more, nothing less.
So, Will + Fort + Refl only.

Otherwise, the house rules forum is just a few doors down.
[... though I'll add, as casters are already very powerful and as that is already a good feat, from a design and balance standpoint I would not advise it.]

It's a rules question.

Reasonable or not, this forum is pretty strict on the RAW once it hits the rules forum.
