Enjoying the first game. Brazil are clearly the better side but Croatia have good sturctures and are hanging on after the own goal.

And, as I type, Brazil get a penalty...

Incidentally, depressing to see how the ref has to backpedal away from the players as he gives the yellow card. If he stood his ground, what would they do?

Keeper gets a hand to it but Neymar scores again.

Brazil 2 - 1 Croatia

Thst 3-1 goal was a bit of allright.

Bah! We all know that [popular team] sucks! [Unpopular team] is going to win it! [Generic insult at popular team]!

And that's all I have to say on the matter for every single game :P

Looking forward to watching some this weekend! (As are the cats, who chase the soccer ball along the wall when we project matches.) We're cheering for Argentina because (family), but its matches probably won't be that exciting until the second stage.

Spain will win...that is all good day to you all

I am just waiting for the USA to play. I am not very interested in how the rest do.

~crosses my fingers~
Maybe we will get to the quarter finals or with luck even the semi finals this time.

PS: It will be more exciting to watch the women's FIFA where the USA are the world leaders.

Meat in excessive quantities has been brought to watch tomorrow's game between Chile and Australia with my dad, brother, and a group of friends who're joining us.

May the best team win!

Spoiler:

Just kidding. WE MUST BEAT THEM AUSSIES, ARGBLARGHRGRHR!

Let me know how many teams stand around for last 20 minutes of their game, because if nothing changes both teams advance.

There will be no cup!

ahem

*holds up sign listing all the German female soccer successes*

The Cameroonians are a bit unpolished in their tackling, no?

I did expect more from them, not a good game so far

but I like Volker Finke, he is a legend over here

It's 13:45 here in Chile and, wee of four hours for the game against Australia, the country is effectively under temporal stasis as every single company closed doors after lunch and sent everyone back home to watch it.

Cameroon were a bit rubbish. Even Eto'o looked laboured.

Mexico looked good for the win.

England play Italy tomorrow, so my local shop was pretty much out of crisps and beer already.

Spain versus Holland next, that should be worth watching. Spain the obvious favourite but Holland are a bit better than Croatia or Cameroon.

Just learned my boss has a secret identity! :-o

And his side are doing great.

Spain 1 - 5 Netherlands

An absolute rinsing for Spain: great game.

Robben and Van Persie took quality goals: Van Persie's first goal will be everywhere tomorrow.

Blimey O'Reilly!

I did not see that coming. Sure, the Dutch can always beat anyone, but while it was a bit unfair a result at 4-1, by the end it could've been 6 or 7... :o

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Woosh! That was quite the beating the Dutch handed out to the Spaniards!

Great game indeed! Though it makes me tense considering we have to play against them the 23rd.

Let's see after Australia is bundled out in the first round....

I will support anybody that is playing Italy because they take more dives than Jacques Cousteau. Especially after that time in Germany...we was robbed.

I will support anybody playing England, that is my patriotic duty, it is also my patriotic duty to tease them constantly....invented a sport they can't win at. ;-)

After Arannas comment I am supporting anybody that plays the US and I hope they get bundled out in the first round.

I think Germany will be my team, when Australia is out.

Go Tim....

A game??!! I think there's more than that, which they invented and cannot win at. (Cricket, football, rugby union, rugby league.... there's only darts & snooker that the UK has a chance at ;))

And they don't even try at bandy anymore.

Well played Chile

Well played on your part as well, Australia.

Cahill had me chewing my fingers down to the bone. Man that lad is good at jumping.

And that offside goal of his... whew. T'was tense.

Tim is getting old :-(

Need you guys to smash the Spanish, we need to hold the Dutch down to a minimum..but they are on fire.

Aye. Those Dutch are on fire indeed.

Hey go easy on us you big meanie it's not like our men's team can actually win the world cup yet... but it would be nice to get close.

Aranna,

I guess 8thD reacted to your "don't care how anyone else does" comment, that was a bit of an unsports(wo)menlike thing to say

wohooooo *hands 8thD a black red and gold flag and a ridiculous, plastic, black-red-gold Pickelhaube*

here in Germany our team has a bit of a hard time, after the desastorous semi-final at the last Euro the public and the press turned their back on the Coach and the Team
opinion is: they can play but don't know how to fight and win

and a lot of the nay-sayers expect that we will loose every match,
typical German pessimism at work

if we win tommorrow, everybody will change his mind and will tell you he always belived in the team

van Persie's headed goal was unbeliveable

Goal of the Tournament I guess

and Robben scores twice with is usual trick, I can't belive that still works

Sorry for you havocXIII, I'm not a fan of the Dutch but I'm glad when Spain lose! ;)

Germany uber alles!

Is it? It's no different than saying I only want to watch my own team play.

I just like to watch the Beautiful Game, no matter the players' gender.

(My own team won 6-2 today, we average @7 a game, but I'm now four weeks without a goal. Still three this year so far is ok... For a non-striking passing/crossing half. Ah, playing in the dogtowns...)

You do know that for the Dutch there is nothing more satisfying than beating the Germans right?

most soccer fans try to watch as many matches as possible, no matter who is playing and give tespect to the best temas no matter who they are

Just watched replays of Van Persie's header.

Outrageous skill, at high speed against the best team in the world.

I really hope it doesn't win goal-of-the-tournament because the skill needed to top that would be worth seeing.

Swedish TV-pundit Johanna Fränden: "Greece is a chronically un-sexy team even if you do like defensive football, which I do."

Truer words have rarely been spoken.

And van Persie's goal was indeed a doozy.

Somewhere in south Sweden Zlatan gritted his teeth, turned of the tel, and grabbed a gun to go shoot a wild boar.

At least the Swedish women are doing okay. 3-1 up in Motherwell.

That goal! Van Persie wasn't even looking! *shakes head*

I'm not sold on this year's theme song (it's no "Waka Waka"), but if you haven't seen it, Coke's Arabic version of its World Cup song is pretty adorable: "The World Is Ours."

9 in the evening, start of a looong soccer evening
Italy vs England starts at midnight

They're never going to best Un Estate Italiana from 1990 - the only good thing about that tournament (aeglos might disagree with the last part of that) [/nostalgia goggles]

¡Ai ai ai, Uruguay!

Brave header and Costa Rica is in the lead.

I've searched everywhere but can't find which jersey the US team is wearing Monday. Anyone know?

Grand Lodge Global Organized Play Coordinator

Absolute stunner. CRC 3 - URU 1

Just wow. I guess Uruguay thought they were going to walk into this game and not have to compete to win.

If my "World Cup Bible" is correct in having Ghana as the "home" team they'll be in the tricolour kit.

Yes that's it in a nut shell. This is a chance to look beyond your horizons to find out a bit countries other than your own.

Ask any Australian who is your 2nd team and you will get a multitude of answers.

I chose Germany because last weekend I was at the Concordia Club eating pork-knuckle, sauerkraut and drinking Erdinger, when my friends asked who my second team was.

Other friends chose the Dutch, and mostly South American teams, except one who chose Italy and she promptly had napkins good naturedly thrown at her.

I had Argentina last World Cup.
