Outsiders and Lycanthropy questions.

Rules Questions

I can't seem to find an answer to this anywhere. I'm curious if an outsider PC, in my particular case an Aasimar, could be a lycanthrope. I'm toying with PC ideas and this is, admittedly, probably an overpowered concept, but just for the sake of knowing, please indulge me with your opinions and any possible sources. It is my understanding that outsiders are assumed to be immune due to their lack of the required humanoid subtype, but would the same apply to Scion of Humanity (or Scion of X)? If not, how would their stats be adjusted?

A secondary question... in hybrid form, can lycanthropes still use the same weapons they use in human form?

Their stats would be adjusted just like a human's would, and in hybrid form they can use weapons just like humans can.

It would also be a power boost if only one player had it. If I gave this to one player I would give the rest of the players something also.

I don't see anything in the outsider description (http://paizo.com/PRD/monsters/creatureTypes.html#_outsider) to suggest they are immune to lycanthropy. Ditto the Aasimar entry (http://paizo.com/PRD/monsters/aasimar.html).

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Lycanthropy by the rules appears to only affect humanoids, which outsiders are not including aasimar and tieflings. With the exception of Scion of Humanity Aasimar which would also possess the humanoid type as well as Outsider, which would allow you to be affected.

Perhaps this is discussed elsewhere, but what is the consensus on what happens to your gear when you are in animal form?

Your armor and stuff, it gets shredded and/or dropped. It's not wild shape, you don't get that convenient melding into your animal form.

Lazar I agree with you per RAW, but I dont think the rules are intended to work that way. There are official adventures, and when they go from animal to human or hybrid form they are never naked. Now personally since this is an EX(going off of memory) ability it makes no sense for the items to meld into the form, but at the same time it makes them more difficult to run as a GM. If use what makes sense then I would have to make the animal and hybrid forms stronger to make up for the loss of armor and weapons.

From the Bestiary: "All lycanthropes have three forms—a humanoid form, an animal form, and a hybrid form. Equipment does not meld with the new form between humanoid and hybrid form, but does between those forms and animal form."

Thanks for the quote

Wait. Did they change lycanthropes so you no longer have to hand the sheet to your GM when you change? It was the offset for the power boost where you became totally feral and almost rabid. Not much of a curse if you can control yourself if you are afflicted.

Also Aasimar and Tieflings and all that are native outsiders. Still though, the curse only works on full humanoids. So, being part outsider makes them immune since their biology is somewhat not of this world. The curse/disease whatever can't work in their bodies.

What kind of lycanthropy by the way? Because the first change is involuntary and that actually caused a character in my game to die. he failed his save against the wereshark affliction and his first change, which is always to animal form, happened on land so he suffocated and died.

For equipment, I assume if it is baggy clothing you fill it out or tear it. For heavy armours I figure it either breaks off or cuts into you/chokes you as your body is being crushed by the metal.
