Question about Metaforge

I'm sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, but I was curious.

Whats the point of the Metaforge? It allows you dual progression of aegis/soulknife, but you miss out on the exciting parts of both.

I'm hoping someone can give me detailed reasons why simply going 10/10 ( or some similar combination) of Aegis and Soulknife wouldn't be better. Especially if you use the feats 'Student of the Astral Suit' and its Soulknife equal.

Using Student of the Astral Suit AND the Metaforge class gives you even more.

As the author, the point is to give people a choice of how to deepen their class. Almost any Prestige Class concept CAN be achieved by multiclassing, yet the PrC can offer a different mechanical approach to it.

That said, do what feels best for you as a player. :)

Firstly, this should belong in the "Compatible Products from Other Publishers" forum, since the Soulknife, Aegis, and Metaforge all belong to Dreamscarred Press.

Secondly, this is the stat table for the iconic Metaforge that I was given the privilege to build when DSP successfully funded their Kickstarter campaign for the Ultimate Psionics book. It was never used in the final print, but this does give you an idea of what a Metaforge is capable of (and there's probably a couple ways this build could be improved even further); it's a LOT more than simply going 10/10 into Aegis and Soulknife.

You do lose out on some Blade Skills (though the Extra Blade Skill feat does make up for this somewhat) and you don't get very far with Psychic Strike, but the really important ones, Enhanced Mind Blade and astral suit customizations, continue to advance.

It definitely would be nice if the Metaforge had more class features that made it stand out and feel like it actually blended the mechanics in question.

Neither crystallize nor transfer are particularly inspiring abilities.

It still beats going 10/10 because you're not delaying your other class' option nearly as much (i.e. level 17 for 7 levels of your mind blade rather than level 10.... even with the feat it's still 10v13).

Would have really liked if the class had more synergy between the suit and blade though. All you really have in that regard is being able to weaken your blade to buff your armor, which isn't much.

The capstone is really.. meh too.
