Trying to change my Tieflings subtype

Advice

Dark Archive

Hello all. As the title says I'm trying to change the subtype of my Tiefling to any of the following aberration, dragon, elemental or magical beast.

Does anyone know of a way to do this without huge level adjustments? The character is level 7 if that matters.

Thanks!

Dark Archive

Those are types. In general, you cannot change your subtype into a type.

Scarab Sages

Become friends with a Druid.
Kill yourself.
Druid casts Reincarnate.
If you don't come back in desired form, repeat.

You could advance to Nature Oracle 20, change your type to Animal, get intelligence drained (damage won't work, must be drain) down to 2, have Awaken cast on you, have Restoration cast on you. You are now a Magical Beast, congratulations!

If the above trick seems insane to you like it does to me, you could always use Wish or Miracle.

The Exchange

No idea, but it might help to know what we're working with. You say you're a tiefling. Standard or one of those variants? And what class/level are you at present?

And as a side note - Aberration and Magical Beast provide fewer bonuses inherent to the type, so you'll probably have fewer problems talking your GM into allowing one of those than Dragon or Outsider (Elemental).

Dark Archive

Oh right, Elemental is a subtype of outsider now.

Get yourself killed and reincarnated on an elemental plane of your choice.

The Exchange

I thought of that one, but even if the GM agrees with my personal interpretation of the text in the reincarnate box, and you hire a Witch 18+ with the right Grand Hex to force reincarnations - I'm assuming here that you won't particularly want to die just to acquire a subtype - and travel to an Elemental Plane to do the deed, you'd be more likely to end up with just the (air), (earth), (fire) or (water) subtype.
