I have no idea what that Iron Gods art looks like, but I imagine a lot of Technic League tech to look kind of steampunk-y because it's cobbled together, repaired, or altered with locally-produced items. Copper piping, complicated glass optics, steam hoses, that kind of thing, plugged into future-tech widgets.

Somewhere between Orky and Imperium of Man from WH40K, I guess.

For straight up tech, fresh from the wreckage, though, I imagine plain old futurism (even if that is retro-futurism or cyberpunk).

I was thinking that's a possibility - I wonder if they went in different art directions for Cobbled/Junkcraft tech stuff of the Technic League (more common) vs. the rarer pure tech.

I am SO jazzed for this AP!

James is correct. The ecology article is geared more toward GMs as it relates some information that many android characters would not be aware of. There are a couple of feats in there however that could be used by android PCs, so talk to your GM about it (which you should probably do anyway if you're planning on running an android) and see if he or she will share those crunchy bits.

James Jacobs wrote:

Yeah, the place you'll want to go for android crunch and player-friendly android information is actually People of the Stars.

Among other options for androids, the four feats in the ecology article are indeed reprinted in People of the Stars, so players can access those feats easily without running the risk of getting a spoiler from the GM-focused (and lengthier) ecology article in Iron Gods itself.

Thank you both! This is good info, and since I was planning on nabbing PotS and Tech Guide, I should be fine. My GM is pretty excited about the idea of having an Android in this path, and I'm excited about the character too. Especially if there's a tech-based class or archetype in the Tech guide.

Any analogy with Kingmaker will only make me want to play Iron Gods even more. Kingmaker was simple a dream made reality.

Awesome NPCs, lore, background, motivation... flavored with imense memorable encounters: Whiptail Centipede at lv 2, Staglord Fort, Random trolls at lv 1, Candlemere, Lots of cool faeries, Grigori, Dead Dragon Lair, Giant Owlbear, Centaurs, Cyclopean Lich, and every single named NPC from book 6.

That adventure was a masterpiece... waiting for some "anniversary edition" updated with all new PF material :)

If Iron Gods has any type of the coolness of Kingmaker, the adventure will last for years on the Top 3 of all time.

Lol like a poor cool little Vegepygmy makes ANY chance at all against that OP guns.

I couldn't help but read this as "Like a poor <NPC/Monster> has any chance at all against <PC Abilities>"

OMG I don't see an "ancient evil" as the front cover! So glad we don't have another dumb "ancient evil has awakened" final book like in Kingmaker.

What other reason is there for seeking out adventure? "Ancient Evil has awakened" is pretty much why I play this game.

I dunno, books 1,2,4, and 5 don't involve an ancient evil awakening, just "realistic" conflicts that make sense such as dealing with a bandit lord, expansion of civilization and the difficulties associated, war, and more war.

The entirety of Skulls and Shackles has no "ancient Evil" to speak of.

Seeking adventure for personal wealth and fame, for your God, because you were ordered too, to find X family member, or to solve Y mystery don't necessarily require an "ancient evil" though it's possible.

So to answer your question
Most of the time characters, note I didn't say players, don't begin seeking adventure to combat an ancient evil. While an ancient evil can make for an interesting end to the campaign, completing the campaigns overarching plot that doesn't involve an "ancient Evil" can too.

More examples of compelling endgame that don't involve "ancient evil"

Staging a political takeover for X reasons after working for the nation long enough. Exploring and taming a section of uncharted land. Forming an organized Crime ring and taking over the organized crime in the area. Trying to solve a high profile murder.
