Magus bonus feats

Advice

Alright, so my group and I just hit level 4 in RotRL. As a Magus, that means next level I get my first Bonus Feat. The question is, how useful are item creation feats? I've never actually played a PF campaign for longer than 3 sessions, so I'm unsure..

The way I see it now, I can either grab an average combat feat (like Improved Initiative), a metamagic feat for later levels, or Craft Magical Armor and Weapons/Wonderous Items. I'm the only arcane caster in the group, and likely to be the only one who grabs an item creation feat, so I doubt they'll be any overlap.

Suggestions?

Scarab Sages

If you want a crafting feat, take Craft: Wondrous Items.

How useful it is depends on the DM and time restrictions in game.

This.

Around here, we rarely have the time and almost never have the money to do crafting.

Their use varies.

A lenient GM can risk them being game/economy wrecking powerful.

A strict GM, or one GM'ing a game with little down time, can make them effectively worthless.

Ultimate Campaign had some suggestions you might want to check out or show your GM, IIRC it was something like a 10-100% WBL boost. That's powerful but not game breaking.

(Also, side note to your comment on alternative choices, Improved Initiative is not an "average" combat feat. Initiative is generally the 2nd or 3rd most important characteristic on something like 90% of the games classes and, at later levels (translation: rocket tag levels), eventually becomes basically the #1.)
Being 20% more likely to go first can swing whole encounters, esp. to a class like Magus that has good choices in defensive buff spells (and in general many spells that are useful to cast earlier in a fight/before the enemy can go).
