favored class bonus question

Rules Questions

Hey there,

I was wondering about the alchemist's favored class bonus with the tiefling race. It states add +1/2 to your bomb damage. Should I interpret this as add half a point just once or as add 1 point for every 2 points of damage or even something else?

Thanks :)

Half a point of damage. So, you add one point of damage for every two times you take this favored class bonus.

Okay I understand the half point now but what do you mean with two times favored class bonus. I thought you could only get out once?

You choose between 1 skill point/1 hit point/1 "unit" of your racial favored class bonus for each level you take.

You choose between 1 skill point/1 hit point/1 "unit" of your racial favored class bonus for each level you take.

But the CRB says you have to choose hp or skill point at 1st level and then it's the same for every level afterwards. So you do not get the chance to choose between them every level.

Keep in mind it only applies to your favored class, chosen at first level, if you ever intend to multiclass (or take a prestige class).

This is incorrect.

I missed that - but the Racial Favored Class Bonus is opt-in on every level. So your choice is "one unit of racial FC bonus or +1 [Hp or Sp, as chosen at 1. level]"

Then what is the "particular level" part?

Ha, I was right all along.

"For a particular level" means that if you chose bonus skill points at levels 1-5, you can't cash in those skill points for hit point when you level up later.

It means you can't "take backsies". Even when Ultimate Campaign introduced rules for retraining, Favored Class Bonuses were left untouched.

Anywhom, to answer the OP, the FCB in question does nothing for you at level 1, but by level 2 (and every even level after that) your Bomb damage increases by +1. Assuming you take that particular FCB every level, of course.

Well, there is one way to change your FCB for previous favord class levels, but it requires several things be true, and costs a feat.

You have to have chosen either 1 hit point or 1 skill point for a FCB level for it to be affected, you have to be Human, you need an Int of 13 or higher, and you need to take the feat Fast Learner, at which point in time, any FCB you have taken that is for a hit point or a skill point becomes both a hit point and a skill point.
