Well I think this is a multiple part question for me so here we go this is all assuming you are abandoning the extra feat for this Adoptive Parantage racial trait of course:
1) if you are not going to choose a class that gives a +1 BAB bonus at first level, can you choose weapon focus as the feat choice (assuming the race you choose does not have weapon familiarity?)
2) if you choose the Weapon Focus feat as allowed by this racial trait, must it be something that you are proficient with via your chosen class or are you considered proficient with the weapon you choose for this weapon focus?
3) is there a list of weapons that are considered "appropriate" for races without weapon familiarity in PFS?
4) assuming you get this far, are unarmed strikes available to be taken with this weapon focus? Or what about a specific improvised weapon? (A Muse-touched Aasimar wielding a lute comes to mind)

Rules question. brace for possible movement.
This is the PFS organized play section of the boards. Question may get moved.
1) if you are not going to choose a class that gives a +1 BAB bonus at first level, can you choose weapon focus as the feat choice (assuming the race you choose does not have weapon familiarity?)
Totally winging it, but it seems to me like you could take the feat (since you do gain it) but it wouldn't work until you met the prerequisites.
2) if you choose the Weapon Focus feat as allowed by this racial trait, must it be something that you are proficient with via your chosen class or are you considered proficient with the weapon you choose for this weapon focus?
Same as above. I think you could take it but it wouldn't work until you gained proficiency.
3) is there a list of weapons that are considered "appropriate" for races without weapon familiarity in PFS?
Not to my knowledge.
4) assuming you get this far, are unarmed strikes available to be taken with this weapon focus?
I can't see why not.
Or what about a specific improvised weapon? (An Muse-touched Aasimar wielding a lute comes to mind)
I think you can take it but you'd have to gain proficiency with the improvised weapon in question for it to start working.
All answers are semi coherent opinion pulled from places not allowed to be mentioned on the boards. Use caution when driving or operating heavy machinery before using. Do not use if nursing, pregnant, or may become impregnated by a Qlippoth. If symptoms persist more than four hours, call your cleric.

1) No.
2) You must be proficient with the weapon you want to take the feat in.... No exceptions. And you must have a +1 or better BAB. Even a trait that gives you proficiency isn't enough if you don't meet the second requirement.
3) See above.
4) Since you can't get that far... No.

Ah, thank you^^. I was just a bit puzzled by this, as you are supposed to choose the race, before choosing the class as outlined by the rules. It does seem silly that they would give the option to take a feat from a trait if you can't well... Legally take it depending on a later choice in the process (being class) but, I suppose the rules are the rules. (Especially due to this "Pick a race, applying any modifiers to your ability scores and any other 'racial traits.'")

I don't know the answer to these questions, but wanted to point out that RAW, weapon focus or skill focus are not available to any non-boon races.
From Adoptive parentage: Choose one humanoid race without the human subtype
This excludes half-elves(human subtype), tieflings and aasimars(native outsiders not humanoids)
All the other core races have weapon familiarity

Well there is the tengu which by RAW, also doesn't have the weapon familiarity racial trait, rather, it has the sword trained racial trait...
