Hi all just a quick question a character in our game has taken weapon training thrown group now do they get the plus one with a spear if they are using it as a melee weapon ?

They get +1 to all attack and damage rolls with all weapons in the selected group. It's stated pretty plainly in the ability description.

Yes. They get the bonus with all weapons in the group regardless of if it is being used as a melee or ranged weapon.
