New to Pathfnder: need some advice for playing at a Con

Advice

So UK Expo is coming up next week.

Never played PF, although I played AD&D 1st and 2nd editions nearly, good grief, 30 years ago. (Low power, long running campaigns: went from level 3 - 8 in 3+ years of weekly sessions: just to give you an idea). Mediaeval-Norse setting. (Cleric of Sif until he got killed and raised by a cleric of Hel and then a Paladin of Heimdall).

I've signed up for a couple of sessions at UK Expo, I can't see any advice on the site either specific to the sessions I've signed up for nor in general. (The sessions are tagged as level 1-7).

My initial questions are:

- I'd like to play either a cleric (old school, not druid style, if you see what I mean) or a paladin. Good aligned: in the latter case it would be 'Lawful is the best way to achieve Good" philosophy. Would I be expected / be able to bring my own character?

- Which leads me to my second question. Is there a standard pantheon in PF? Something like the old Deities and Demigods? I've seen a mention of Iomedae, but searching on the Paizo site she(?) only turns up in a single adventure. Where would I look?

Thank you

Edward

Yes. Check out the Golariopedia for the standard pantheon (and nationalities, languages, history and so on).

1-7 sounds like a PFS scenario. Is there any indication if the events are being run under pathfinder society organized play rules?

Hi!

I went to the uk games expo last year and it was my first roleplay game at a con.
I had a brilliant time and am going again this year (I've also signed up for paizocon uk in July too).

Most of the pathfinder games at the expo are, I think, pathfinder society games and it certainly sounds like the ones you have signed up for are too. To be sure they will say pfs in the description somewhere. (Pfs = pathfinder society)

That doesn't matter a jot however if it is pfs as you can either turn up with your own character or just sit down at the table and choose from a selection of pregenerated characters.

The best place to find out about pfs is this free document here which explains it all.
Guide to Pathfinder Society Organised play This (together with the core rulebook) will take you through the process of making your own character for pfs.
From my experience last year though, everyone is really friendly and welcoming and the GMs were very happy to help new players.

Hope that helps!
