The title says it all.
I often run encounters where I have three, four, or more of the same type of creature. But I lose track of who's who, which makes it hard to remember who has how many hit points, who has temporary status effects, etc.
The problem worsens when they move around each other on the battlefield -- my improvised system of writing HP totals on my sheet the same way they are positioned on the mat becomes useless.
So it would be great to have pawn bases that are numbered, or of different colors, so I don't lose track! :)

I use this kind of pen (sorry, page in German) that paints a white varnish to write numbers on the bases. i'm sure something similar should be available in the US. I think Edding is for us Germans what Sharpie is for you Americans.

Tokens from Dapper Devil are pretty handy for marking individual minis or pawns, by the way.

Thank you, JohnF, for mentioning us.
To The Rot Grub (and anyone who might be interested), our Mini Counters are specifically made for tracking enemies and monsters easily. They simply stick to the minis! For storage, all Mini Counters and Markers come in an enclosed plastic case.
Also, right now all of our profits are going to a fundraiser for a gamer in need.
In fact, to help with the fundraiser, I'll throw in a few extra counters with every order...
Take care, and good gaming!

Little stickers on the bases is what I've done. I did that with my set from Bestiary Box, so I've got 20 numbered mediums, 10 numbered larges, and 5 numbered huges. That's enough.
Back when I just had the Bestiary Box, I sometimes wished I had more bases. (6 PCs, plus NPCs that sometimes tag along, plus familiars, etc., eat up bases fast.) Now that I've got three Bestiary Boxes and the NPC Codex Box, I have more bases than I need.... I generally use non-numbered bases for the PCs' figures, as they're supposed to recognize who they are. (I've been using figures from Arion Games for PCs, as I really like those. With both those and the Paizo Paper Minis, I print them out and fold them a little differently so that they are almost thick enough to stay in the Bestiary Box bases (sometimes needing an additional cardstock shim). Being able to carry them around an just-flat pawns rather than as paper minis with bases makes it much easier to carry around a whole lot in a box.)

I use Alea tools. You place a small, removable piece of magnetic receptive material on under the base, and then put the Alea tool (a small disc with a magnet inside) under that. you can buy edge marks for the tools (labels with numbers or conditions, etc.) that you peel off and put around the edge of the tool.
It isn't the cheapest, but it works great! I love them.
