question about Gang Up Feat

Rules Questions

so the feat says as follows:

Benefit: You are considered to be flanking an opponent if at least two of your allies are threatening that opponent, regardless of your actual positioning.

it says nothing about having to be adjacent to the creature yourself so would you get flanking if you attack at range? because if so that would make a ranged rogue a bit more viable.

No. Flanking requires melee attacks. The change granted by Gang Up is that you no longer have to have an opponent on the opposite side of the opponent to be flanking. You'd still have to be making a melee attack, though.

However, an ally using the snapshot chain of feats could assist you in Flanking because those feats allow you to threaten at range (though that ally still wouldn't be Flanking, even if their threatening allows you to to be Flanking).

ah see I thought the feat was too handy

however, nothing is stopping you from making melee attacks from range in the way you described if you can manage it with a reach weapon or some other shenanigans.

This has been run dry in the following thread:

The general consensus is Gang up DOES give flanking if 2+ allies are threatening. If you are using a Ranged Weapon you do NOT get the +2 attack bonus that you would with a Melee weapon, but you DO get your Sneak Attack damage.
I have never seen any "Official" Ruling on this.

You haven't? Ok, here you go;

Gang Up doesn't allow Rogues to ranged sneak attack

If you have a rouge with a long melee reach attack like a whip, sure.

If you think ranged, then no. You gain no flanking bonus or the benefit of being considered flanking when making a ranged attack.

Flanking is by definition a melee thing, so you can't ever flank ranged with anything that doesn't say "you are ranged flanking".
