Spontaneous Metafocus-can you take this early?

Normally many feats you can take early (like Empower Spell before you even get high enough spell slots) but the wording of this feat seems a bit more restrictive by RAW.

Spontaneous Metafocus
You can focus to combine one of your known spells and metamagic feats.
Prerequisites: Cha 13, one metamagic feat, able to spontaneously cast spells.
Benefit: Pick a single spell that you are able to cast spontaneously...

So could a level 5 Sorcerer take this with say Fireball, a spell he cannot know before 6th? Because he is not able to cast Fireball spontaneously. I'm leaning towards no...but was looking for a more official ruling if there is one. Search-fu didn't turn up a match :(

Level 5 sorcerers can't cast 3rd level spells (of which fireball is one). Ergo, they cannot select this feat at 5th level to use with fireball. If they somehow recieved a feat at 6th sorcerer level (or more likely 7th level when you would normally get a feat) you could select it then.

If your GM uses retraining rules you could also retrain a feat at 6th level when you can cast fireball to be able to use spontaneous metafocus with fireball. So long as you meet the requirements of the feat when you retrain you are allowed to retrain feats to others that you would not have qualified for at that earlier level when you recieved the feat.

I agree with Claxon.
