To the OP, here is the way to think about it. In PFS, craft, perform, and profession skills all get a new use, Make Day Job Check. This check is not any other use of the skill that is in any of the rule books. It is a new custom use for the campaign. Some vanities add Make Day Job Check to other skills, like Caravan for Bluff. Tell a lie is a different use of the bluff skill than make day job check, so bonuses to tell a lie do not apply. Only bonuses to make day job check or bonuses to there entire skill use apply.

Sorry for the thread necro.

Was there ever any word from John Compton (or anyone else official) about the Alchemist class level bonus for day jobs?

It's in the new Season 8 Guide, page 34.

Only bonuses to the entire skill apply.

Actually, that isn't what it says there.

Permanent bonuses from the following list affect your Day Job check as they would any check for the rolled skill. Temporary bonuses from sources other than crafter’s fortune do not affect Day Job checks.
• Equipment
• Feats
• Racial bonuses
• Class features
• Traits
• Familiar bonuses
• Crafter’s fortune spell

Since the Alchemist class level bonus is a permanent bonus and a class feature, I believe that the Season 8 guide allows use of it on the Day Job roll.

I already said I understand the mask of stony demeanor is ruled as not being able to be used for day job rolls Sior. What I'm showing is that from a logical point of view it should be since it fits that kind of a day job roll fully. I already said I understand what John ruled above.

If you already understand the the ruling but are trying to show logical reasons why your right...

As someone above already mentioned, your Bluff day job check example isn't just involving lying to guards. It's passing along secret messages to the buyer. It's hiding the merchandise from guards in concealed locations. It's guarding the caravan as it travels through the wilderness. It's haggling to get lower prices when acquiring merchandise. And it's haggling to get higher prices when selling said merchandise. It's all these things rolled into one skill check that acts as an abstract.

When Marak Cobbler makes his craft: shoes day job check it doesn't just involve him making shoes and boots. It's him haggling for the best prices he can get for the leather he needs. It's him directing any assistance he has in their job. He's assessing the quality of the resulting goods. He's convincing a customer that they want to buy this (more expensive) pair instead of that (less expensive) pair. The roll also is determining how many customers he got. Were they mostly pathfinders (he does offer a discount to pathfinders) or other adventurers? Was it farmers looking for new footwear, or nobles wanting something fashionable? All this goes into determining just how much he made in profits for the period of time the day job check covers.

Not going to bother looking at tomestamps on posts. If it's on the front page, I consider it fair game.

The Alchemist class ability is indeed permanent, but it cannot be used on "any check for the rolled skill".

It only applies to one limited use of the skill.

The Concordance

What about once(or X times) per day ability, such as Inspired Trait(reroll
the skill check) or Inspiration Investigator class ability(+1d6 in skill check)? Can they be used in Day Job?

No. The Inspired trait is a single free action usable once per day and the inspiration ability for investigators is gained through a pool of points. Neither are permanent abilities.

Think of the day job as something your PC is doing over several days, as mentioned in several posts above.

The Concordance

Agree. Thx.
