Hi All,
Merisiel just encountered the nasty Teraktinus villain. The giant's card reads:
"Before the encounter, Teraktinus deals 1d4-1 ranged combat damage to you."
Our question is because Merisiel evaded the encounter, does this mean she does not take that 1d4-1 ranged combat damage?
I've read a few long threads on evasion in the forum and it's been sorta confusing. Thus, I was just wondering how others have/would handle this situation.
Many thanks in advance for the wisdom +2,
Ben and Lil' Abby

Yes. Evading ends the encounter before you get to the step "Apply any effects that happen before the encounter" so she would not need to apply Teraktinus's 1d4-1 "Before the encounter" damage.
Evade the Card (Optional). If you have a power or card that lets you evade the card you’re encountering, you may immediately shuffle it back into the deck; it is neither defeated nor undefeated, and the encounter is over.
So the encounter ends as soon as you evade and you don't continue with the steps of the encounter.
See this thread for clarification on how evading works. Essentially, if you evade you don't do the other steps of the encounter. So anything that says "Before the encounter" or "After the encounter" or anything about "attempting the check" or "resolving the encounter" don't happen. The card is still encountered, so things that happen via the fact a card was encountered (i.e. the Warrens and Shrine to Lamashtu or Blessing of the God's power to be auto-acquired) do still happen.
Godspeed on your adventure to you and Abby. I hope you take down those giants.
