Hey folks, haven't been on the players side of the table in a long, long time, so I'm grateful to the GM allowing me to play at theirs.
He's running Ravenloft in Pathfinder, and I can't decide whether to embrace or resist the evil of the place.
So far the group has a wiz, bard, and sorc. Squishy squishy.
Level 6
16,000 GP
16, 15, 14, 14, 12, 8 (rolled 4d6 and dropped lowest 1)
Great stats I think.
So, I've been mulling over what exactly to build. The group clearly needs something 'tanky.'
I've been considering:
Scarred Witch Doctor (Witch) - Really cool archetype that allows casting with con. I could boost up str and con, use hexes and fight in melee with a great ac using the scarshield. However, they don't come into power until they get major hexes, and we're only level 6. Really feat intensive, too. Evil would work well.
Paladin - Would draw a lot of attention to myself, but would be pretty strong in Ravenloft.
Barb/Alchemist - hulk?
Some sort of evil cleric or another - Cause why not?
Synth Summoner - might be a waste of my good stats.
Or do you personally think my stats are wasted on these classes and I should play something with mad?

Have you talked with your GM about being evil in Ravenloft?
In traditional Ravenloft games performing evil act calls the attention of the Dark Powers. Typically you'll have to make a Dark Power check and if you fail it, it will alter your character. If you fail enough checks, your character succumbs to the Dark Powers and is no longer playable.
I don't know how your GM is running his game, but it would be best to check before making your evil Witch or Cleric

Dark Lords have a chance at detecting a paladin in their domain, but that doesn't necessarily mean that they will take it upon themselves to hunt down and kill said paladin. Many Dark Lords simply won't care, or are too busy with their own plans to bother with a low-level pally. At higher levels, though, you might be dodging bullets so to speak, since you'll start disrupting the domain.

Have you looked at inquisitor, from the APG?
Good mix of powers: 3/4 BAB, able to use clerical spells, access to a domain (sort of), access to a customizable bane enchantment on your weapons, etc.
All with out that kill-me-I'm-a-Paladin aura.
And the downside of going evil is, in Ravenloft, you're garunteed to have a bigger bad nearby (who probably isn't looking for competition).

Here's the text from the 3.5 Ravenloft Player's Handbook.

I'm going to be playing in a Ravenloft campaign soon, and I've made a multi-class cavalier (order of the penitent) / rogue. I'd consider paladin, but I'm more attracted to the idea of playing an outlander drawn into the mists due to the sins of his past (Silent Hill style).
So, if I were to recommend a character class, I'd say cavalier. You can still be LG, you just aren't armed to the teeth against those creatures that go bump in the night.
Regardless of character class, make sure to pick up the Courageous feat if your DM is using the alternative system for Fear, Horror, and Madness published for use with the Ravenloft campaign setting.
