In-game writings on Golarion Cuisine?

Lost Omens Campaign Setting General Discussion

Meals and their preparation are an important part of many cultures. In the real world, certain food and drink are strongly associated with specific nationalities and cultures. Kosher food for Jews and tea ceremonies for Japan are but a few examples of food preparation, while even specific foods such as pizza and spaghetti are strongly correlated with one country in the mind of many (in this case, Italy).

Has there been any in-setting detail on the nations and cultures of Golarion and their food? What would be a traditional Cheliaxian meal? Absalom? Kyonin?

The Sixfold Trial (Book 2 of The Council of Theives AP) goes into detail about the grsnd 7? course meal served at the party after the play. Dont have access to the book at the moment, but it is a nice example of (High class) Cheliaxian Cuisine.

There's a recipe for a Varisian dish in the first part of CotCT. (I think. It's called spicy chickpea simmer.)
Then there's a list of special treats in the Guide to Korvosa.

Erik Mona's free web fiction has an alchemist protagonist and lots of fantastic cuisine.

There are several cooking articles in various Wayfinders as well.

Pathfinder Chronicler Anthology, Vol 1. has a great story about a chef in Absolom.

Elves of Golarion is pre-Pathfinder, I think, but has an extensive discussion on Elven food. I think there are even some mechanics.

Whenever a tavern is outlined, they usually mention 1 or 2 'famous' courses that are served there Some of those are chronicled Here also if you click on the restaurants subcategory, many of those have links that haven't been fleshed out yet, but will at least give you names and maybe a price.

I have a lot of headcanon about this topic, and there has been Golarion-themed recipes in past issues of Wayfinder. :D

I am pleased to no end that my favorite drink is on that list. :)

Jade Regent's fourth volume has a really neat section involving fancy cuisine from Hongal. My players were simultaneously grossed out, and impressed by how neat and exotic it all was.

Not official, but here's a thread I used for some Drow Cuisine back when I ran part of Second Darkness.

I'm shocked that the word "fire" only appears in one beverage name on a page listing fantasy alcoholic beverages. : )

I keep hitting "refresh" in the hopes that this thread will blow up, and I can start making Golarion selections for my AP group.
*ctrl-R* crap.

Vudrani and Arcadian seem like the easiest to extrapolate or embellish. Varisian also doesn't seem hard (plus, who doesn't want to make Paprika Hendl? People I don't know, that's who).

Just tell me where in Golarion I can get something close to Mexican food, so I can plan my next ingame vacation :)

Silver Crusade

This is amazing. Totally following this thread for future info.

Serving Your Hunger comes to mind, but then I'm a twisted individual ;)

If food/game nerds are interested in collaborating to come up with real-life options for in-game food -- Hi, I'm Darling Rabbit. Let's chat.

@Matt_T: while ancient mayan/incan cuisine probably doesn't resemble modern (especially modern served-state-side) Mexican, Arcadia would probably be the business end of our Columbian exchange. That means things like maize, potatoes, tomatoes, coffee, etc would be native to the area. I feel like for fun purposes, I'd fudge it and just make lingua all day every day because why not. The interesting part for me is to see what cultures are interacting where (and when) to determine what the cultural fusion might yield. What are subcultures up to? Can I research this. Will there be footnotes. Can there be footnotes.

tl;dr I could probably brainstorm this all day instead of working.

I believe it's already been established that coffee is available in Garund, along with potatoes.

Neat! I'd love to see source material/references, especially since I'm new and interested in the culture of the different regions and ethnicities.

(:

There is a six-course meal with each course spelled out in the Pathfinder Society scenario #3-10 The Immortal Conundrum. The feast is at the Thuvian Embassy in Absalom. The scenario is quite fun--I've run it twice now.

First Course wrote:

"seared sea scallops presented on a bed of butternut squash pureed with exotic Thuvian herbs and drizzled with chive oil."
Second Course wrote:

"reefclaw cakes presented with fire roasted corn, garlic, and sauteed leeks"
Third Course wrote:

"roasted beets in a dwarven mead reduction, presented with fresh goat cheese and pickled Chelish greens"
Fourth Course wrote:

"the main course, composed of grilled fillet of ankheg, presented with caramelized shallots in a Thuvian wine reduction, crisp truffle-scented potato, white asparagus, and Darklands mushrooms"
Fifth Course wrote:

"a dessert of sorbet served with berries soaked in Irrisen ice wine and topped with a delicate chocolate lattice"
Sixth Course wrote:

"a rich Rahadoumi coffee and a choice of either a fine Taldan dessert wine or a dark Molthuni brandy"

I want to see a cookbook, put out by Paizo. And not some silly cookbook that disguises microwaved chicken nuggets as "gryphon nuggets" or something silly like that.

I want a cookbook that actually lets me cook!

This. Especially as I have to make so many things from scratch anyway to avoid gluten. By all means tell me to dice up some chicken if I can't find gryphon steaks though :)

Linkification: Two Pieces of Tarnished Silver

Fantasy cuisine starts in the second part with an eleven course meal.

The alchemist's lips quivered in self-satisfaction as the translucent slug pulled a trail of brilliant amber across the serving tray. "We begin with a delicacy unique to the untamed jungles west of our homeland, brought to the table of Lady Iranez by the reach of almighty Nex's unparalleled merchant network and prepared by yours truly, Epostian Creeg."

"The creature's slime deadens the tongue's acidity, triggering a mild euphoria in the taster. When combined with the ink of the Blanchess urchin smuggled from the depths of Lake Ocota, this effect unlocks what the Mwangi mystics call the 'seventh flavor,' a sensation ordinarily reserved for their haughty, ancient spirit-gods."

...and it gets weirder from there.

I was wondering if there is some sort of grand culinary school or prestigious table, where a chef could of learned the trade ?

This is for the background of an NPC :)

I'm not aware of one named yet. I was thinking about trying to flesh out the food category of the wiki - as several books such as Taverns of the Inner Sea have full menus in them now. I would guess Absalom, Almas, Ketapesh, and Kaer Maga would have cooking schools, along with a lot of the other major cities that aren't waged in open conflict.
