crafting wands; does size matter?

Rules Questions

Good Afternoon Fellow Gamers,

Typically a wand is a slender wooden baton, about a foot long.

Could I make it 18-lbs, 4-ft long, and wielded by hefting it up onto your shoulder? (Still be a CL-10 Wand of Fireball, but used like a bazooka)

Or fuse a CL-9 wand of magic missile to a bow-less crossbow (so I have a rifle.)

(As a DM, I would definitely allow it at my table...but what about yours?)

Very Respectfully,

As long as they're not trying to gain functionality (and in fact are adding to the encumbrance of the item or making it require two hands to use), then sure, why not ?

But if they're going to want to smack someone with the wand as if it was a club or buttstroke someone with that rifle-wand for two-handed damage, that's another matter. There's a spell for that, Weaponwand. It would let you meld a wand into your club or rifle.

Or just make a custom item that has weaponwand as one of the creation requirements to make a special club or rifle that uses a wand rather like a magazine.

Yeah, as long as there is no change in functionality and they just want to reskin visually what it looks like, thats fine. If they want to have a wand they can use as a weapon, as slim gauge points out they can use the Weaponwand spell or they're SOL.
