Witch Hunter Urban Barbarian

Advice

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Been thinking about a more subtle, socially adept adventurer that is able to root out and kill his enemies, specifically spellcasters. The barbarian has excellent saves due to various rage powers, but I am not as adept with barbarians.

I am trying for a focused (Controlled Rage) Barbarian with light or medium armor, two handing a longsword or somesuch.

Anyone got a build lying around, or any advice?

Thanks!

Oh my god, that's so cool. Is it for a specific campaign? Or is it just to mess around?

Maybe you'd have a tactic to try to target their hands and break them, or try to strangle and silence them immediately so they can't cast their spells? I don['t know if that's even possible, but the visual is great.

just messing around. I just build stuff and add it to a notebook... IF i ever get invited to a game or need an NPC as a GM (far more likely, but I hold out hope for the former) then I don't ever need to come up with anything on the spot.

If I knew anything about strangling rules, or if there even are any, a lasso would be cool.

There's a sticky guide to the classes.. have you tried that?

I used it to research a CAGM (come and get me) barbarian build, but then i had a brain wave to create a combat cleric instead! ;)

Barbarians are hard to mess up in general. Get a solid strength bonus and power attack, and use rage whenever in combat. The rage powers are easy as well: the ones you want most for this character are also the ones that are best in general: superstition, witch hunter and spell sunder. As for feats, if you want to screw with spellcasters it's hard to beat the step up line of feats.

If I were to build this, I'd probably take 1-4 level dip in inquisitor, with the spellbreaker archetype and the spellkiller inquisition. That'll really ruin a spellcasters day.

You could also consider going dex-based. It's not as powerful as strength based, but could be interesting. Personally I'd stay away from the ever present scimitar, and go for exotic weapon proficiency with an elven curve blade or dueling sword, both of which can be two-handed for the higher power attack bonus.
