Weapon Focus with shields

For the purposes of Weapon Focus, would it be more appropriate to have it apply to a specific type of shield (i.e. Heavy Shield or Light Shield) as it is for different types of bows or a category of attack (i.e. Shield Bash) like ray and grapple?

Specific type of shield - they are actually listed on the weapons list.

I have a character that's two-weapon fighting with a heavy shield and a light off-hand shield, both with bashing. In this case, it's valid and beneficial to have weapon focus: shield bash, no? He will, eventually with Shield Master feat, use two heavy bashing shields.

'Shield bash' is not a weapon so it wouldn't work, you would need Weapon Focus: Heavy Shield or Weapon Focus: Light Shield.

Suthainn is correct. Bashing is the attack. Shield is the weapon and you pick either Heavy or Light for your focus.

Shields are weapons.

With Weapon Focus, you need to choose a specific weapon.

So, "swords" or "shields" is not a valid choice.

Longsword, Shortsword, Heavy Shield, and Light Shield are valid choices.
