Dex to Damage

Rules Questions

Sczarni

What all ways are there to add Dex to damage in place of Str?

Aside from the Agile enchantment.

Shadow Lodge

Agile, Aldori Swordlord dip[1 level], Dervish Dance, and there might be a feat in the advanced class guide, but we should only discuss it in whispers to not discourage the Devs.

Dervish Dancer I believe does it.

Dervish Dance, Aldori Swordlord PrC & agile enchantment. Oh, and mythic weapon finesse.

I'd like to see a feat something along the lines of "Improved Weapon Finesse" that says "With a light weapon, elven curve blade, rapier, whip, spiked chain or other finessable weapon made for a creature of your size category, and wearing light or no armor, you may use your Dexterity modifier instead of your Strength modifier on damage rolls."

The prerequisite would be Weapon Finesse. This would be an almost default feat for rogues, monks, duelists, and Dex-based fighters. I think it's balanced against Strength due to it costing two feats to use and the armor and weapon limitations. It can't be used with greatswords or plate, so it doesn't make those options obsolete. On the other hand, it would help monks be less MAD and let rogues focus on Dexterity and still be (somewhat) effective.

WHAT, A DEX TO DAMAGE FEAT IN ADVANCED CLASS GUIDE? SO INTERESTING. LET US FORM AN ANGRY MOB ABOUT IT

There is also mythic weapon finesse. In case you are playing mythic.

I forget, is there a particular reason for nonarchery rogues to be DEX based though? At best, I can see an (poor) excuse in the prerequisites for TWF, but even that can be worked around for a decent strength build on a 20 point buy.

Kind of, but not really. Their weapon and armor proficiency seems to favor dex based builds, but other than that, they're fine with pretty much any weapon. Evasion works well with high dex, and winning initiative is important for sneak attack, so there's also that, I guess. I really like making half-orc rogues, who get falchion profiency for free, and taking that archetype that allows d8 sneak attack with two handers.

Overall, I'm just not a huge fan of dex to damage. It already modifies AC, initiative, reflex, and with Finesse, it modifies hit. Adding damage on top of that just feels like overkill to me *shrug,* but it's already in the game, so oh well.

Even when given little choice, I kind of avoid it. I actually found myself arguing for a strength build on a 15 point buy kobold of all things (admittedly, I was milking the archaeologist bard all it was worth with that)
