Ok I have a question.

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

OK i havent been on Pazio message boards very long and have only been playing Pathfinder for about 8 months. But what is the Difference between PFS and PFRPG? on the advice and game talk boards i have seen people posting those to acronyms and i know what they stand for but i dont know what the difference between them is.

PFS is Pathfinder Society; it uses a modified form of the base rules which drops out item creation rules, alters experience rules, and alters how treasure is distributed. Oh, and takes away freedom to modify adventures...

PFRPG is the base Pathfinder rules, IIRC.

PFS is society organized play, with specific character creation guidelines and house rules. PFRPG is just the core system.

PFS - Pathfinder Society, aka Organized play. It has some specific rulings on things, like no item creation feats, and some archetypes are banned; a full list can be found on the guide to pathfinder society organized play (or something like that) pdf.

PFRPG is just an abbreviation for pathfinder, also abbreviated just PF.

ok so im basically playing PFRPG because im useing just the Books and Player compainions and campaign setting etc...

Silver Crusade

PFRPG is the Pathfinder Role Playing Game and is just that, the role playing game.

PFS is Pathfinder Society, which is a "living" campaign organized by Paizo. Originally the living campaigns were designed so people could go to conventions and sit down at the table with people they didn't know and all have characters that followed the same set of rules. That being the case, PFS has certain things that are legal and acceptable and certain things that are not.

If you click on the big "Pathfinder Society" logo to the upper left, you can get more information about it.

Edit: ninja'd, big time.
