Fun fact, Zeb's race was one of Ralph McQuarrie's early concept art for Chewbacca in 1976.

No one else has said it, so I will.

As cool as all of this looks. And I mean ALL of it (especially Chopper, Oh. Em. Gee.). And I say this as someone who has contributed greatly to the Star Wars game threads around here since I joined. But... I just... kind of wish they'd let the Jedi die out like they're supposed to between ROTS and ANH.

Luke is the LAST of the Jedi at the end of ROTJ. He's the Omega and presumably the Alpha.

I'm going to love this series. But I think I'd love it a lot more if it was Jedi free.

I am still bummed about the cancelling of Star Wars 1313 for not being "Star Warsy enough". Which I assume means "not enough jedi."

I think someone will pick it up. It's too good a premise to just abandon.

FOR MANDALORE!

Hey, there's a new character up! Meet Hera, The Pilot!

Very fitting that I post this one, heehee!!

Very excited about this series. Perhaps even more than about CW 6th season.

Let's wait and see how much Kanan will hog the spotlight, but a series where not all (significant) heroes are all Jedi or Force users of some sort? Count me in!!!

If they can pull the non-jedi Star Wars adventure theme, my urge for Star Wars RPG is going to burst out the seams...

The Exchange

Watching these PC profiles really gets my passion to star wars rekindled. Now just to make sure I don't get too excited by the time I see the trainwreck that JJA will call "Star Wars 7"

I am excited too but probably not as excited as I am for CW 6th season.

As for JJA I think Star Wars might be his crowning achievement. His style of over the top action with a weak story fits better in the Star Wars universe where such big action is highly appreciated rather than in Star Trek where his violations of canon hurt like a sore thumb.

As long as he avoids stepping all over Star Wars canon then he may well be better than Lucas was.

But the problem with the Star Track movies was, for me (as someone a bit too young to have been around when the original stuff was made), that they were not science fiction movies at all, but just big dumb action movies.

I mean, say what you will about the star wars universe, but its stories were never weak. Even the prequels trilogy is, in principal, a huge story of galactic importance. If it would have been performed better it would have been one hack of a story. But the new star track films are just a jumble of shooting, and they have *nothing* of the visual vision that the star wars movies by Lucas had.

I would have liked it if the siblings who brought us the Matrix would have taken over Star Wars, at least for one movie. These guys have style AND, when their heads are not shoved too deeply into their own behinds, they can tell a very solid story, and even have it full of action.

I am not so sure about the Wachowski brothers. The only film that they ever made that was truly a masterpiece was the original Matrix movie. I consider them one shot wonders. Would you really want to risk there being Star Wars: The Speed Racer Epic being made into canon?

Honestly with the exception of Lucas's big hit Star Wars: a New Hope (The story stolen from the Japanese), what great stories has he told? Star Wars I-III are the poorly told story of the rise and fall of Anakin Skywalker. They largely rely on moving from one big action scene to the next. I don't think JJA can do any worse than Lucas, heck his stories might even make more sense than Lucas's.

Considering that the Speed Racer movie was 100% on-model in terms of feel, look, execution, and spirit of the original show? Yes. Yes, if the Wachowski's were able to pull off that level of spiritual succession, I would be down for that.

Honestly, I don't understand the hate on the Speed Racer film. It was absolutely true to the spirit and feel of the original show. Was it over the top? Yes, but so was the original show. Was it ridiculous? Yes, but so was the original show (even the un-Americanized show, let's remember). Was it full of absolutely impossible conditions and scenarios? Yes, and yadda yadda original show. The movie was based on the themes and feel of the original show, and it managed it beautifully. Hate me if you will, but I say this: The Wachowski's might have their problems, but they've proven that they are very good at theme-based production.

And something to remember about Star Wars: It's all about themes. It's not science fiction, it's Space Opera. It's got magical powers and laser swords and talking robots and planets blowing up and crazy space dogfighting. While I think Abrams might actually be able to pull that off better than he's pulled off the serious, social-science-ficiton that Star Trek should be, I have to say: If you told the the Wachowski's would be doing Star Trek 7, I'd be all up over that junk. No questions asked.

Of course now that it's too late for me to edit my post, I realize I said "Star Trek 7" and now "Star Wars 7." I am a dummy.

Ok Kryzbyn you have me there I did like Willow. Although many hated the screenplay (It was nominated for a Golden Raspberry for worst screenplay), perhaps Lucas just forgot how to write after his long hiatus?

Let me quote my film studies professor:

"Critics are critics because they're angry no one would let them write films."

Not to derail the thread any more (too late!), but honestly, the Speed Racer film wasn't for everyone. Just like the Lego Movie isn't for everyone (even if Everything Is Awesome!!). Just like Pacific Rim isn't for everyone, even if I personally think it should be.

Critics can say what they want, and I support your right to agree with them if you choose. However. I don't know what other people went in to the movie expecting, but it certainly wasn't Speed Racer.

The original show had a race track that went through an active volcano for crying out loud. This is not a show that took itself seriously. If someone went in to that movie expecting gravitas and a deep message, of course they'd come out disappointed. As someone who grew up on Speed Racer, I went in expecting to get crazy chimp antics, wacky race tracks, professional wrestling moves from Pops, and a bunch more. I went in expecting a live action cartoon and I was not disappointed. I went in for anime-based fun, I got anime-based fun, I'm satisfied with anime-based fun.

It's cool if you don't like the film. I'm just saying the Wachowski's have proved to me that they can handle theme-based film-making. I'm fairly confident that Abrams can do well with SW7 (hey, I got it right this time!) - mostly because he's put everything that makes Star Wars cool (with the exception of Lightsabers and mouthy doids... unless you count the debris cameo...) into Star Trek already. It won't be a stretch for him to add Jedi and Droids and watch the bucks roll in.

Hama and Aranna, your interest in a Star Wars d6 game is noted.

As an aside, for those who played it, was not the plot twist in the original Knights of the Old Republic the greatest video game reveal ever?

A 2nd question for those reading this thread, who is your favorite Star Wars villain from the movies? I am would allow you pick from the expanded universe but then all of you would say Grand Admiral Mitth'raw'nuruodo.

I quite loved that twist.

My favorite villain from the films is Vader of course, he's menacing, shows up a few times and at times and is the template upon which villains were built ever since. He's part robot and part space wizard and he has a lazer sword. What's not to be terrified about?

If I got to use the EU, then I'm saying Cad Bane. His voice, and model and actions make him the badass that everyone wishes Boba Fett was.

jemstone we will have to agree to disagree I guess on the Wachowski Brothers, fortunately that part of the argument is moot as they won't be making the Star Wars films. And I am confused were you expecting me to disagree about how well JJA will do? I already said this will likely be his crowning achievement didn't I?

baron arem heshvaun... sadly I never got to play Knights of the Old Republic. My first experience with that computer game was with the fairly new MMO for it. After enjoying the MMO a bit I went looking for the older titles and managed to find KotOR II which I am starting to play... and got stuck (apparently if you run out of money you have only two options left: turn to the dark side or quit)... so I had to restart... and got killed... How bad are the first games graphics? I am having issues with #2's poor resolution as it is, if #1 is much worse I may have to give up on finding the game.

Favorite villain? Hmmm... from the movies, I don't really have one. From the expanded universe; Ventress.

There are fixes and patches on the internet, but the game is from 2004.

And whatever the problems, it's quite worth playing.
Or if you have an older PC with windows XP you could play it no problem. Or wait for the GoG version, if that ever happens.

Hmmm GoG? Would their resolution be better? I have a widescreen 1080 monitor. I will keep looking I guess.

Sovereign Court

They haven't put out yet, probably because it's licensed by LucasArts. But there are thousand of votes and people begging them to do so. It would make money hand over fist.

Like I said, you can find fixes on the internet for the resolution problem. In the end, you can play it pillarboxed. That' what I do when I play old games with s****y optimization.

Yes, yes it was.

The turncoat Jedi from season three, I think it was. If only because he was responsible for one of the most moving scenes I've ever seen in a computer animated show (Gundam unicorn does not count, as it is not completely computer animated). The look on the troopers face when he realizes he's killed a brother, the look of "oh HELLS no, this guy has got to GO" he gives the screen afterwards.... I don't think a flesh and blood actor could have evoked such emotion.

Hama you are a true scholar and a gentleman!

I always considered Grand Moff Wilhuff Tarkin not only my favorite Star Wars villain, but also my favorite Star Wars character (Count Dooku being a close 2nd, and interestingly enough portrayed by Christopher Lee, who was Peter Cushing's life long friend).

Fun Fact, while I do not have credit in giving the Grand Moff his first name, I am responsible for making it 'official' when I worked on Star Wars Entertainment and 17 years after I saw Darth Vader's Star Destroyer chase down Princess Leia's Corvette, the Grand Moff got a first name.

:)

I also maintain that The Empire suffered two great loses at the Battle of Yavin.

The Empire lost the first Death Star Battle Station, and as devastating a blow that may have been, the greater and more catastrophic loss was the death of Grand Moff Tarkin.

The Death Star for all its destructive power was still replaceable, Tarkin was not.

Another Tarkin story from his beginning climb to power.

-

In the early days of The Empire following the end of the Clone Wars, high taxes on the planet Ghorman prompted a large mass civilian sit-in protest on the planet's main spaceport effectively shutting off incoming traffic.

Then still a Captain, Tarkin was sent to collect the taxes from the defiant population, was ordered explicitly by his superiors NOT TO FIRE A SINGLE SHOT at the peaceful civilian protest but was still ordered to collect the the taxes.

The protestors refused to yield.

Tarkin followed both sets of orders and did not fire upon the civilians and instead landed his whole Strike Cruiser atop the protesters.

Squish.

Hundreds were killed and thousands more injured in Tarkin's display of the consequences for defying the Imperial government. Despite public outrage at what would become known as the Ghorman Massacre — Emperor Palpatine declined to issue Tarkin any punishment, rather he publicly and personally gave Tarkin a medal and he was soon promoted.

The Exchange

Say, this looks like the right place to ask.

Is "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" any good? 'cause I started watching it after hearing that REBELS was announced, and so far (first 4 episodes) it's been childish and frantic, the animation is rather annoying, and voice acting nothing spectacular. If that is my opinion so far, is there a reason for me to watch any further?

Anyho, it's true that there have been more misses than hits, and maybe it would be wise to get someone else to write the story, but they are darn good when it comes to action scenes and all around visuals.

I would watch "Cloud Atlas" soon, which would hopefully grant me some insight about their more recent work. I might revise this idea after watching that movie.

Season 1 is fairly kid oriented. But as the story progresses you start to care about what happens to the characters. And the story by the time you get to season 5 has matured considerably dealing with themes such as betrayal. It may never be Classical Theatre but it's good in my opinion.

I'm with Aranna on this one. Some really good stuff in season 3-4-5 IMO. Very inspiring for RPG at any case. More development on iconic characters and iconic societies that I'm not going to spoil for you, and a finale on season five with a twist you wouldn't expect in a kid show.

btw, is there a thread about CW that isn't more than 1 year old? Is there one with speculations on season 6? Or discussing the end of season 5?

Perfect for kids. I hate the new PC cartoon thing they've got going. Kids can take much more then people think.

I guess we will. All good. :)

And no, I wasn't expecting that from you at all! My point was merely that just because they made a film you personally didn't care for doesn't mean they'd not be able to pull off a theme-laden, genre-classic style thing as Star Wars. Don't get me wrong, I still thing the third Matrix film fell way flat. But the question of "would you really trust them after Speed Racer" was asked, and my answer was "yes, yes I would."

Just like I'd probably go completely squee-fest if Del Toro got the franchise. Because after Pacific Rim, I am not entirely unconvinced he's not actually a Deity of some kind. ;)
