I think I broke it....mythic kasatha magus....

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

OK, so my gm basically told us to go all out with our characters for our new campaign. He gave us 8k starting gold, first mythic tier and no class/rave restrictions. I love the magus and I love two-weapon fighting. So I made one that could do it. We started at level 5 and made it to level 6 in our first session.

I made a kasatha bladebound kensai magus who uses chill touch as a primary spell for spellstrike. I went with the champion mythic path and took fleet charge and the universal path ability that gives you a legendary weapon and gave it the Powerful ability.
I've got twf, weapon focus and weapon focus mythic, and I can't remember what else ATM, but basically what I'm getting at is that I feel that my level 6 character has entirely too much power.

Granted this is our first mythic game and I've never seen this stuff used yet, but is seems to me that mythic is really just way out of balance with typical games.

Just an FYI I spent my 8k gold on a belt of giant strength and headband of vast int.

Could this be more broken, or am I in for a rude awakening when he throws a mithic bbeg at us?

A little of both mythic does empower the characters but if the GM plays enemies smart they can do all the same things and will fight smart rather than coming at you straight on. On the other hand considering your starting situation (5th level, 8k gold, no restrictions, 1st level mythic your characters may be overpowered or not being properly opposed anyway). Hard to say without more info of what you were facing, what the other players were etc.

Mythic is supposed to be more powerful than typical games, that's the entire point. Remember, no matter how powerful your character is, the DM can always come up with a more powerful enemy.

Don't worry, your not that well optimized. Now if you had metamagic reducing traits and Rime Spelled Frostbites...

To be entirely honest I'm unsure about any of the stats for the first set of encounters seeing as how we ambushed/snuck our way through everything and simply oneshotted everything. The second set had a mythic rock troll that nearly killed one player but we managed it. Our gm is good about balancing baddies against our characters.

I was referring more to the fact that it seems like I may have gone overboard with the character design as far as what a magus SHOULD be and what I created. I'm getting 4 attacks in a round with which I can maximize damage on one and add damage to all etc...it just seems like more that I aught to be doing. Not to mention I have a +10 to hit while using spell combat and twf if fully buffed...

Your character almost sounds... mythic.

It's supposed to be OP. You're Hercules, not the Rock; Raistlin Majere not Ron Weasley; Goku not Jet Li.

Valid point, but even without mythic he's beast...minus my this in still rocking 3 attacks at +9 and spell damage. And nothing else changes...

So if you're doing two weapon fighting how are you managing spell combat or spellstrike since you've got no hands free?

I'd be insterested in seeing your statblock.

He's playing a 20 RP buy race is how. They have 4 arms.

You're playing a race at the extreme high end of racial power before going into full on monster territory.

Your GM allowed it. He's either going to balance it for it, or he's not. Most games aren't balanced around low level pseudo-monstrous race PCs so of course it's going to appear strong.

It's up to the GM who allowed it to make it work in his game, but the race and class themselves aren't "broken".

Kasatha is a 4 armed race. I have 2 hands free. Later on I plan on using wand wielder and doublefire wand magus arcanas to cast 2 spells via spell combat as well.

Where are you getting that the race is a 20rp buy? That's nowhere I can see in the beastiary4.

And just so were clear, we don't use point buy for stats, we roll like all good old school players should...

In the SRD:

As young adults, some members of this race roam the world for a full year looking for adventure and treasure to bring back to their clans. A renegade few decide to forsake their clan and spend their life adventuring.

Racial Traits

Just to clarify, I was talking about racial build points.

Standard races use 1-10 points.

Advanced races use 11-20 points.

Monstrous races are 21+.

Yours is on the verge of monstrous is all I was saying.

Ahh the srd....I was looking the the actual book...

The kasatha is originally from the Advanced Race guide.

Also, technically, you'd need Multiweapon fighting. Not Two-Weapon Fighting.

i have never seen the kasatha in the ARG...only in the beastiary 4. if it was in the ARG it was never a playable race. either way im using the PC race option from the beastiary 4 for my build.

and yes, i am using multiweapon fighting, but seeing as how the only difference in them is how many arms you have, its essentially TWF.

EDIT: Searched for Kasatha in my copy of the ARD and found it. its near the end of the book in the chapter explaining RP builds. i see where you came up with your info now....its not all the different from the PC stat block listed in the Bstry4 except that in the Bstry4 doesnt list it as an advanced race and thus doesnt have a +1 level modifier for the CL or grp ACL.
