Chaos Totem gives bonus to Escape Artist which can't be used?

Rules Questions

Chaos Totem (Su): While raging, the barbarian’s form becomes infused with chaos. She gains a +4 bonus on Escape Artist checks and has a 25% chance to ignore extra damage from critical hits and sneak attacks.

Rage (Ex): ...While in rage, a barbarian cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration.

Confused about why the Chaos Totem rage power gives a bonus to Escape Artist, a skill that can't be used during rage. Am I missing something?

Liberty's Edge

Yes, you are thinking too much as barbarian. Clear your mind and just use your (Su)!

Sovereign Court

There are certain types of Barbarians that actually can use Escape Artist so it isn't a complete waste, but it isn't for everyone.

Skizm, can you break it down for a guy with low Int? Are you saying Chaos Totem overrides the limitation on Escape Artist?

Shadow Lodge

Yes

Uh... how?

As Morgen intimated, /some/ Barbarians have no such limitation on skills:
Urban Barbarian Archetype does away with that restriction with Controlled Rage.
I'm not really sure if that's the true intent for the ability, or if the RAW isn't quite what it should be,
and it is meant to be fully usable for all Barbarians...?

Seems unlikely that the power was intended only to be used by the Urban Barbarian, but with the RAW they are the only ones that can. Nothing else implies that anyone else should.

Shadow Lodge

There is also the Coherent Rage trait from the faction guide. It allows you to select 1 for 4 skills (including escape artist) and use it while raging.
