So shield sconces arent very attractive lol.

I was wondering if I could buy one and instead describe and use it as a slot in my shield that I can lock my wayfinder into.

Why don't you just get some Sovereign Glue and stick the two together?

I would say that a shield sconce and a compass holder are sufficiently different that it wouldn't be a re-skin, but an entirely different item.

Why do you even need a Wayfinder holder? Just flavor reasons?

More like aesthetics... a slot to fit my shining wayfinder (shining crusade) into my shield would just be neat. I dont like the look in my head of a torch on my shield... im a paladin.. not some fighter with duct tape lol

Did you check to see if your magic sword (which I assume you have) is one of the 30% of all magic weapons that continuously sheds light (yes that's an actual rule)? If it is then you have the light source most befitting to a shining crusader: a glowing magic sword.
Or you could buy an Ioun Torch (dull grey ioun stone with continual light cast on it).

You could always just hand it to a craftsman and say "here is X gold, make a slot in my shield that hits this object." I would rule that it is well within the rules of crafting to make this alteration, and that the change is so slight that it doesnt impact the functionality of the shield.
