Interactive maps and adobe reader

Website Feedback

Hi everyone. I was hoping some one could help me speed up adobe reader so that I can use the interactive map pack I got with Rise of the Runelords. Every other file opened fine and I can use them with almost no delay. However every time I try to do something (even moving the page down half an inch) causes the interactive map file to freeze and it takes a long time for anything to happen. Even trying to change the settings takes forever.

Any one got some advice or help for me?

I have the same problem. I should try foxit. If I get to do it tomorrow I will let you know if it works better.

that and some dont like to print the map lines. have tried to redo the tags but dont help.

Try SumatraPDF; it's free, opensource and has a much lighter footprint than Adobe Reader.

That file is rather large. Alternate readers may help, but I can't verify that they will function correctly. I'll see if we can add making a broken out version of that file to our to-do list. I can't guarantee an ETA at this moment, though.

Yeah, I love the features and was going to project it on a table top and use figures with it, but with it being that clunky I don't know. All the other files work perfectly, even the handout file which is just a bit smaller so I was not sure why.

I just downloaded it and ran it in Sumatra and it runs almost perfectly. It takes a moment or two to switch pages, but once that page loads it is good. However the overlays do not work which is the main feature I want to work.

You can still do it, if you extract the map images out and use something like MapTools to display them.

How would I go about doing that? I have used maptools in the past so have a basic understanding of it.

With the interactive map file use the snapshot tool to copy the map you want (at least in Reader XI). If you have the book PDF you can just copy/paste it directly. Paste it into digital image software of your choice and save.

Import the map image into MapTools as a background. Then turn on fog of war and disable the Maptools grid..

At game day run two copies of map tools on the same computer one as the DM, and one as the players version. The players version is the one that you'll put on the projector and the DM you'll keep on the computer.

Then reveal one square somewhere on the map to get your scaling correct and you're pretty much ready to go.

I hope that makes sense, I've only done it a few times so far myself.
