dual-wielding

Advice

First of sorry for the bad English language.

I have some questions about TWF.
Iam considering building a character that dual-wields two kukri or two other light weapons. But what I cant find out is the what the penalties are when wielding two light weapons. Can some one enlighten me?

And are kukri the best weapon of choice when duel-wielding?

Thanks alot!

Howdy,

First of all, your English is excellent.

In answer to your question, wielding two light weapons is no different than wielding any main hand one-handed weapon with a light offhand weapon. For figuring out the penalties, what matters is if you have two-weapon fighting and/or the offhand is a light weapon. So:

Ordinarily two-weapon fighting is -6 main hand and -10 offhand.

If the offhand weapon is light, the penalties become -4 main hand and -8 offhand.

If you have the Two-Weapon Fighting Feat, the penalties become -4 main hand and -4 offhand.

If you have both the Two-Weapon Fighting Feat and the offhand weapon is light, the penalties become -2 main hand and -2 offhand.

Regarding which is "best", that's kind of subjective. If you're a crit fisher, kukris are fine because of their wide crit range. I've seen some mighty fine builds with Wakizashis as well which are comparable. If you're looking just to stack "on hit" effects like static bonuses, a lot of people favor using either Unarmed Strike or stacking on several natural attacks.

If you want a little more versatility, a double weapon can serve well since it can be wielded either as if it were two weapons for TWF purposes or as a 2-h weapon for when you can only make a single attack (ie. charge, standard attack action, AoOs, etc). You can also take your hand off but still hold it in the other if you need a free hand for something (cast a spell, grab a potion, throw a dagger, etc).
