Way of the Angry Bear 3! The long hug goodnight a.k.a. Final Embrace of the Angry Bear!

Advice

2 people marked this as a favorite.

So some of you might know my penchant for druid/monk multiclasses as laid out in the first Way of the Angry Bear, and I just wanted to marry the Final Embrace Line of Feats with awesome wildshape form.

I wanted to do some fact-finding first though.

1. Which is better - Generic Druid/Tetori or Nagaji (Naga Aspirant) Druid/Tetori (Tetori is more or less non negotiable as its the best monk archetype for grappling). Generic druid gets cool WS forms (as naga aspirant wildshape doesn't seem to progress past 6th level) but naga aspirant gets cool spells off a pretty decent list.

2. Where are all my huge WS forms with constrict? Giant Squid is the only one I could find and that isn't great on landed combat. (Or is it? Movement is messed up, but you still have pretty decent reach)

3. Can Final Embrace Horror Really make every enemy panicked, no save? (Greater grapple + Rapid grapple = three potential chances to be damaged with grapple + take damage from constrict = shaken -> frightened -> panicked)

I'm sure there are similar builds out there, which I'm going to raid for ideas, but I think its got good potential.

If your focus is grappling, I would go with vanilla Druid. Leave spells as your secondary focus. Grappling is hard enough without splitting your focus.

I've made it work when the focus was tripping (though the fury's fall controversy has soured me on that effort), so I have some faith that I'll get it going here... I hope?

If the wild shape doesn't progress past 6th lvl, will that cripple a core mechanic or can you make due with what lvl 6 gives you?

Can make do, though with the free constrict from the Anaconda's Coils belt you can be an Allosaurus with final embrace master if you like.

Shame, I'll miss those spells from the naga aspirant.

I just checked nagas, and while they are snakelike, I don't see any forms that have grab and constrict. I would think that would be key, as tetoris do not get constrict until 15

But nagas can take the final embrace feat for free (which gives grab and constrict).

Or is it that the druid naga aspirant doesn't "actually" count as a naga.

Final Embrace wrote:

Prerequisite: Str 13, Int 3; naga, serpentfolk, or creature that has the constrict special attack; base attack bonus +3.

Benefit: You gain the constrict and grab special attacks. Your constrict attack deals damage equal to your unarmed strike or primary natural weapon melee attack. Further, you can grab and constrict opponents up to your size.

Hmm, Tetori Stacks with Flowing Monk... which means I can use pinning throw to initiate my grapples whenever enemies attack me.

I won't get Improved Trip for free from Flowing Monk as a bonus feat (Tetori restricts Bonus feats to choices given), but I can get it for free from the wolf domain (which also has strong jaw as a spell).

Going full dex might be a possibility with agile maneuvers... hmm.

Do they stack? They both modify the monk's bonus feats.

One replaces the list but doesn't replace the "monk bonus feat" class feature (Flowing Monk). The other one replaces the "monk bonus feat" class feature (Tetori). IIRC, that allows them to stack.

Edit: Ack, complications. The Flowing Monk replaces the bonus feat gained at second level (which still exists but the Tetori has it as Stunning Pin). Why would you do this to me Herolab? (Well, what do people think?)

Nay, it doesn't work... I'm going to noodle it over and see if the Flowing Monk is a worthwhile skeleton to hang a grapple build on (probably not). But I'll write more in the morning.

Note, final embrace horror making enemies panicked really isn't all that because they are only panicked until the beginning of your next turn.

But it does mean the drop all their held items in the square you're standing in. Heh heh heh. :)

I love the idea of this grappler build. Could you please outline a level 10 build for me like how you've done in the guides?
