Crafting magic items?

Advice

Want to make my next character a magic crafter, but cant seem to find a clarification on exactly how it works. All I see is it adds +1000 to the base price and require feats. It doesn't clarify though if I wanted something such as either +1 / +2 on a item, or put a spell on it for others to use, and if it has to be something I can do.

See here for the rules.

Basically, every magic item in the game has a stat block. We'll go with Bilbo's ring from The Hobbit as an iconic example.

RING OF INVISIBILITY

Aura faint illusion; CL 3rd
Slot ring; Price 20,000 gp; Weight —
DESCRIPTION
By activating this simple silver ring, the wearer can benefit from invisibility, as the spell.

CONSTRUCTION
Requirements Forge Ring, invisibility; Cost 10,000 gp

To make this ring, you want the Forge Ring feat, the ability to cast invisibility, and the raw materials, which include a ring and cost a total of 10,000 gp. You spend twenty days, doing 1,000 gp worth of work each day, and make a Spellcraft check of DC 8 (5 + the caster level of 3), which you should be able to do by taking 10 -- this is fairly simple. Voila, one magic invisibility ring.

If you don't have the invisibility spell, you can still try but the Spellcraft check is 5 points higher, so you'd need to roll a 13, which you might not be able to take 10 on. (Hint: max your Spellcraft ranks.) If you don't have Forge Ring, you can work with someone who can, but if no one in your party has that feat, you probably can't make rings. And, of course, you need 10,000 gp to do it.

Making an enchanted weapon is a little different because the cost varies a bit. A +1 weapon costs 2,000 gold above the cost of a masterwork weapon. A +2 weapon costs 8,000 gold above the cost of a masterwork weapon. A +3 weapon costs 18,000 gold. In general, a +X weapon costs 2,000 times X squared gold.

So if you want to enchant a +1 weapon, you need the Craft Arms and Armor feat. It takes two days (because it costs 2000), costs you half the value (1000gp) and you need a masterwork weapon to start with. Make the Spellcraft check and you're done.

If you later want a +2 weapon, that will cost you another six days (8-2), cost 3000gp, and take another check.

What if I had a scroll of invisibility, could that be used to construct that ring? Or if I found a NPC who could cast it?

You would need to use one scroll each day that the item is being made. Or have the caster available and dedicating that spell slot each day.

Follow this link and scroll down to magic item descriptions.

There you will find the following:

A spell prerequisite may be provided by a character who has prepared the spell (or who knows the spell, in the case of a sorcerer or bard), or through the use of a spell completion or spell trigger magic item or a spell-like ability that produces the desired spell effect. For each day that passes in the creation process, the creator must expend one spell completion item or one charge from a spell trigger item if either of those objects is used to supply a prerequisite.

On further down will give mor einfo regarding creating items.
