As the title says I have a friend who is possibly interested in playing.
He is an avid reader and I thought giving him a book or maybe 2 might allow him to understand the game.
I already invited him to a session, so please don't suggest that because I already beat you to it.
In any case I was wondering what peoples thoughts were on which books to recommend.
I have almost all of the paizo books minus some I thought
I didn't need such as the npc codex.
Any recommendations are welcome. I would love for this friend to start playing and don't want to scare him away.

Do you have a PF or D&D novel with a team of adventurers? Not just a single hero, or plus a sidekick. An actual team workingtogether should represent what D&D/PF is like.
I would.never suggest making him a DM without having plYed himself but he might like reading the story of an adventure and seeing how things are presented behind the screen.
Consider having him.read over the iconic background stories and than show the character sheets and explain what their combat styles are along with how their fears and magic work.

I second the suggestion of the Inner Sea guide and the PRD. Though it hasn't been updated recently (2010), you might consider this version of the PRD or something similar. It focuses on Core and APG options, which are good to start with.
The Paizo PRD is a close second; it just depends on your friend. The Paizo guys have been doing a good job of keeping the website organized and the navigation succinct.
