Crafting Arrows

Rules Questions

Shadow Lodge

So just a quick clarification. I tried searching for this in the Rules Questions thread, but I didn't find an answer. When Crafting ammunition (arrows, shuriken, etc.), do you assume that you're crafting a standard sale lot (20 for arrows, 5 for shuriken, etc.), crafting 50 (standard magical lot), or crafting individually?

I ask because I have a Ranger in one of my games who's crafting arrows during watches, and so I was trying to figure out progress by the hour for arrow crafting. So far, I've been assuming lots of 50 is the standard arrow crafting, so I have the following formula for hourly arrow crafting:

Check result * 12 (arrow craft DC) / 7 (days in week) / 24 (hours in day) * hours crafted = completed sp of arrows

I have some other modifiers in there from circumstances, but that's the gist of the formula I've been using for ammunition-crafting. Anybody find anything particularly wrong with it, or am I wrong in assuming that basic ammunition crafting is in lots of 50?

As a note, on a 4-hour watch, the most I've seen him craft was 12 IIRC.

It's up to the GM. Some might rule that the crafter is using an assembly-line method, so halfway through the crafting the crafter has 50 half-finished arrows. But I see no reason to rule that way, especially for mundane ammunition.

As for the standard, I assume that they're crafting as many as they want to craft.

The set lot of 50 arrows is for enchanting arrows, not creating them. As for the amount of arrows, it depends of price and what the listing says. If it says it's 20 for the price, then it's 20. If it only says one arrow, than its for one. Typically the single arrows are as such and for their price because of the intricate details, materials, and complexities of the arrow.

So if he wants to craft common arrows at 1 gp, for 20 than whatever his sp progress for the week, convert it to gp if you can. And that's how many sets of 20 arrows you can make a week. If you want to figure out the daily divide by 7. And do math accordingly.

AA fisher filament arrow is 256 gp for just 1 arrow. Meaning you'll need 2560sp progress. Meaning it'll take over a week or so just to make 1. Whereas the common arrow and similar lot types, always 20, can be am faster when comparing speed of single arrows to one another.

Common arrows are sold in lots of 20. They are enchanted in lots of 50. Nothing requires you to do either for more than a single arrow.

A single common arrow costs 1gp/20, or 0.05gp.

Let's say your Ranger has Craft(Bows) of 8. Taking-10 gives him a skill of 18. With a DC of 12, that will make 18*12 sp/week, or 21.6gp/week. A single day gets ~3.08gp. Half a day while adventuring gets ~1.54gp. Half speed from crafting while adventuring is ~0.77gp. This nets him ~15.4 arrows. Lets assume he does not bother with the partial arrow. He gets 15 common arrows/day while adventuring, at a cost of 0.25gp.

The only parts above I am not sure of are the half day and half speed while adventuring. I do not see any RAW for this, but these are the rules for magic crafting.
