[Advanced Class Guide] Wishlist Thread

I've noticed that a lot of "[X] Request" threads have started to crop up in the Playtest, and because asking for new archetypes and/or hybrid class combinations isn't what the Playtest is about, I've decided to start this wishlist thread in hopes that it'll A) help foster discussion on what content people would like to see in the Advanced Class Guide and B) keep that discussion out of the Playtest and into a singular, unified thread.

Here are some quick, common-sense ground rules:

  • DO NOT post about changes to the Playtest classes. That feedback should be compiled in the Playtest Threads in the appropriate forums. Not here.

  • DO NOT post negative or derogatory remarks to the thread. If you want to be negative, more power to you, but this thread is about creating new content, not, "wishing that [CLASS] sucked less" or whatever.

  • DO NOT verbally attack others or their wish lists.

  • DO post ideas for new archetypes, feats, favored class bonuses, and magic items for the new classes.

  • DO post ideas for new archetypes, feats, favored class bonuses, and magic items for the game's existing base, core, and alternate classes.

  • DO engage in civil, polite discussion about ideas.

With that out of the way, let's hear your wish lists and show Jason, Sean, and Stephen that the Paizo Community can be as productive at formulating new ideas for Player Crunch as we are at formulating new ideas for Bestiaries!

I wish that Stephen has a set of birthday presents distinct from his gifts from Santa.

Also that they come up with new Favored Class Bonuses that have learned from the sins of their forefathers.

  • Swashbuckler archetypes that expand the class for Two-Weapon Fighting and the use of Finesse two-handed weapons, such as the curved elven longblade, the bastard sword, and the katana. (I *really* want a class that can finesse a katana!)

  • Ninja, samurai, and antipaladin archetypes. I was thrilled that we got an Antipaladin archetype in Ultimate Combat and the Sword Saint from the Dragon Empires Primer is a neat idea. Specifically, I'd love a ninja archetype that trades ki and ki-like talents for the investigator's inspiration mechanic in an attempt to make a more historical, less supernatural ninja. On the flip side, I'd love a samurai archetype that evoked some of the mysticism that people associate with the ninja today.

  • More cavalier and samurai archetypes that trade away the mount class feature. Its not that the mount is a poor class feature, but the option to trade it away needs to be available to characters in case a player wishes to play a cavlaier, but mounted combat isn't appropriate for the GM's campaign.

  • Archetypes that allow non-cavaliers and samurai to join an order. The orders are neat, but its a tad odd to build entire organizations off of a singular class feature. For example, a cavalier order could function as monastic training for a monk. Same mechanics, but the flavor is different.

Love you to death, Cheapy, but who between the two of us is offering more productive suggestions and ideas? ;-)

I would like to see a Gunslinger/ Magus hybrid class. I just think they would be cool combined like the existing hybrid classes.

If only you knew :)

I agree with this. The firearms rules fall into the same category as the mounted combat rules in that the benefits are awesome, so the penalties have to be equally harsh. But where mounted combat's feats are generally lessened by a series of feats that anyone can take, the gunslinger class has a stranglehold on firearm combat. (Especially early two-handed firearms, which require 11 levels in gunslinger before you can make a full attack action with them unless you're using a magical effect to help you out.)

Since this is tangentially about classes, I'd like to mention a desire for an artificer/tinkerer/engineer type.

I'm hoping Paizo took note of all the hopes and desires for that sort of class in the run-up to the reveal of all the classes.

I wouldn't mind a cavalier/summoner archetype that focused on teamwork feats and summons.

This is just a personal opinion, of course, but I always thought that the Inquisitor was a little bit better at Teamwork feats than the cavalier, if only because the Inquisitor has Solo Tactics.

In the long run, a character with Teamwork feats needs Solo Tactics so those abilities are actually doing something in the likely event that the character's PCs don't want to invest in Teamwork feats. If the cavalier got both Solo Tactics and Tactician, it would have been a much better class.

Well, yes. That's why the summoner gives his summons the teamwork feats ;)

Don't forget to check the options HERE

Sorry. Couldn't resist. And it is definitely constructive.

There are alot of thing I WISH for when a new spat book comes out and since a new one is coming out, I'll post here

Feats:
Extraordinary Effort: Treat attributes as 2 ranks higher for meeting feat requirements

Focused Mind: Select Wisdom, Charisma, or Intelligence. Use the selected modifier instead of Dex or Str when rolling an attack roll for a spell. Also the selected attribute may be used in place of any attribute normally used in a spell

Spellcasting Prodigy: Select Wisdom, Charisma, or Intelligence. That attribute is treated as being 2 ranks higher for the purpose of class features spell casting & spells per day.

Shield Combatant: Prereq: Shield Focus. Gain DR- equal to the base armor bonus from your shield

Spells:
Minute Meteors

Deca staff

Lesser Orbs (Non-touch attacks if needed to balance the game)

Mundane Items:

Smoke Berries (FR item)

Hoplite -

Dwarven Bolder Sling

Cool flavor that matches the class features.

I tend to say this all the dang time.
but an archtype for alchemist and/or (prefer both with different flavors honestly) investigator that deal heavily with poisons, with regards to costs and DC powering up. and possiblyh alchemical item usage archetype haha.

  • The Swashbuckler can already finesse a katana, I think? If you've got EWP in it then it's a one-handed slashing weapon, which qualifies it for Slashing Grace unless I'm misremembering something. Of course paying a feat tax for flavor is an entirely different and very annoying issue that isn't being discussed in this thread.

As for me, I'm hoping for a Swashbuckler with an in-class animal companion so I can finesse a lance. Play a Kitsune and suavelancepounce.

I would definitely like to see throwing weapons gets some love, maybe in a bard or rogue archetype. A mystical samurai archetype has been in the back of my mind for a while now as well.

Souphin, just a heads up, the book is already at the printers.

I'm hoping to see some technology options for the upcoming Iron Gods AP. Seems like a good opportunity to put in some alien magic/tech into the core rules.

I'm also hoping to see some combat subsystems. With swashbuckler coming out its a good place to get some good non-full attack combat options that to represent more daring and cinematic fighting.

I figured so, but I had to say that somewhere
