class weapon proficiency & the non-core playres guide

For classes such as druid, rogue, and monk that only have a specific list of weapon proficiency, is there a rule or list that applies to what new weapons from the various guides and modules are available for those classes?

If the new weapons don't fall into a catagory like 'simple' or 'martial' that the class has proficiency with, there are no general rules granting said classes proficiency with new weapons, even if it would make sense for them to know how to use the weapons. However, some new weapons call out that a class get's proficiency with them. For example, the Temple Sword explicitly states that monks gain proficiency with the temple sword.
