Cool. That'll work for me. :)

Looking at Group 1’s skillsets, it looks like there’s some redundancy between Jean-Pierre and Huc in terms of role/skillset.

Huc’s a naturally better stealther, but Jean-Pierre’s a much better trap-breaker.

It might be fun to have a scouting team (and if we go this route, you able/interested in picking up Stealth Synergy?)

If we only want one scout, do you want to do that? Or would you prefer Huc do it? I built Huc to do it, but I can’t match your trap-breaking skills. And if we can rely on Jean-Pierre to do it, that means I can re-jig my trait and skills to drop Disable Device in favor of something more useful.

I’m also having to rework my gear (i went over budget initially). My AC is going to take a hit. I’d love to be able to get the Shield spell available for Huc, but even if I pick up the trait and max out the ranks, i’ll only have a +8 modifier to hit a DC 20 in situations where we likely don’t have time for Huc to futz around trying to get his wand to work.

Tarq, would you be open to hitting Huc with a wand of Shield when the time’s right (if I can provide the wand)? Or do you think you’re going to generally need that time for self-buffing?

Actually, you've only got me beat by 3 on the Disable Device. Which means I could play the scout if you want to send those ranks elsewhere.

Still love to hear your thoughts.

Minor Crab-beast

Alpha group is go

Eben - I wouldn't sweat it too much, this will be a short and sharp playtest through a series of close encounters.

Cool

Okay, Huc is in-game. I updated gear and what-not, but kept him otherwise the same for simplicity.

See you guys in-thread. :)

Think I have this guy ready enough for a smashface session.

Male Half-Elf Ranger/Sorceror 20 (SP 310/310) (HP 310/310) (RP 17/17) (AC 44) (Fort +33, Ref +36, Will +34)(Perception +36 (+2 Init))

@Huc: Shield is a 'Personal' spell, so even if we had a wand, people can only activate it on themselves :-/

Also, how are you getting +16 on Disable Device; shouldn't it be only +12 (or +10, since I don't see MW Thieves' Tools on your equipment list)?

(+3 Dex + 4 ranks + 3 class skill + 1 trait + 2 equipment - 1 Armor Check Penalty = +12)

Um... yah, i'm not sure where I got that. +12 is right. Thanks for the catch. And MW Thieves' tools should be on my list.. must have gotten lost when i was moving stuff over.

My Warpriest is mostly ready to go. Just picking spells and rounding out magic items.

Silver Crusade

Female Elf Warpriest (Wasp Zealot) 4 / Magus (Spire Defender) 1 / Evangelist 2 HP 49/49 | AC 21 | T 17 | FF 16 | CMD 18 | Fort +8 | Ref +5| Will +10 | Init +2 | Perc + 7

I'm sorry to intrude, but I saw this thread earlier this afternoon when it drifted to the top of the active threads list, and was intrigued. If you're still looking for players for a second group, and have room for a second warpriest, this alias has been looking for a place to call home for playtesting. I think she would play rather differently from Chantilly, and two divine warriors together might have nice synergy.

Minor Crab-beast

Group 2 will be Rune's Swashbuckler, David's Warpriest, Balodek's Bloodrager, and the freshly arrived Warpriest Adonara.

No problems welcoming you Adonara - just be aware that I'll be fairly light on descriptives and that the essence is a quick and dirty playtest :)

Thread is here have at!

If we somehow manage to scrounge together another four I could always open a thread number three.

Lantern Lodge

I have a shaman ready if a spot opens or we get a third group. Have the selections all made and just need to complete the alias. Will post in a few hours after PFS.

Liberty's Edge

I have a lot more time this week than I did last week; decided not to go skald, and will have a go at a brawler. Should have profile later today, unless things go completely pear-shaped at work.

Female Human Swashbuckler 5 (click for sheet)

@Mark:

It has been brought to my attention the last line under the "Bonus feats" class ability for the Swashbuckler:

Advanced Classes Guide Playtest Document, under Swashbuckler class and Bonus Feats ability, last paragraph: wrote:

Upon reaching 4th level and every four levels thereafter, a swashbuckler can choose to learn a new bonus feat in place of a bonus feat she has already learned. In effect, the swashbuckler loses the bonus feat in exchange for the new one. The old feat cannot be one that was used as a prerequisite for another feat, prestige class, or other ability. A swashbuckler can only change one feat at any given level and must choose whether or not to swap the feat at the time she gains a new bonus feat for the level.

Swashbuckler levels are considered fighter levels for the purpose of meeting combat feat prerequisites.

So if you don't object, Valerya will take Weapon Specialization (rapier) as her 4th level bonus feat.

Minor Crab-beast

No problems :)

Human Magus (laughing shadow)/1 HP 15/16| AC 17 (18 with mystic armor)| Fort (E) +5| Ref (T) +7| Will (E) +5| Init Perc (E) +5/Stealth (T) +7

Here's the brawler; haven't equipped him yet, though.

Scarab Sages

Male Human Wizard 7

What is the second group missing? I'm up for filling most any role, although I'd especially like to try out Slayer.

Minor Crab-beast

So far it looks like there is a Shaman, and Brawler for group 3.

Quick question: Is the enemy at G14 at ground level?

Minor Crab-beast

G14 is yeah - update coming in a bit.

Scarab Sages

Male Human Wizard 7

Ok! I may cook up a Slayer for submission then.

Minor Crab-beast

Car trouble today (dodgy radiator fan) so update will be tomorrow.

How hard would it be to climb one of those platforms?

Minor Crab-beast

Not too hard - DC 15

So I mentioned a Slayer, but the new Arcanist revision has me so tickled I had to switch to it. So here we go- Wells, the paper/scroll-eating Arcanist 5.
(Ulmaxes here)

Minor Crab-beast

Apologies for the go slow at the moment - I'm negotiating my way through a crunch time at work while prepping for a kid's birthday party this weekend. I'll keep up as I can, but it'll be sporadic this week.

Minor Crab-beast

After two days this week when I've gone to bed less than three hours before my first alarm goes off to head back to work... I'm pretty sure I'm over the hump - or at least will be once my son's birthday party is out of the way tomorrow.

A moment longer of your indulgence and then I shall be functional once more.

Silver Crusade

Female Elf Warpriest (Wasp Zealot) 4 / Magus (Spire Defender) 1 / Evangelist 2 HP 49/49 | AC 21 | T 17 | FF 16 | CMD 18 | Fort +8 | Ref +5| Will +10 | Init +2 | Perc + 7

Of course, Mr. Voice! Give yourself time to recover, and I hope your son's birthday goes splendidly.

Can we update our characters based on the revised playtest materials?

Minor Crab-beast

Yep - I may not get a chance to update tonight... youngest has a 39 degree fever.

Oof. Sorry to hear it. I can definitely sympathize.

And I'll be looking over my options for the revised Slayer, but the changes are somewhat minimal. Functionally it's just additional skill points, additional access to class skills, and new Slayer Talents.

Revised Playtest Huc
Skills: Added 10 skill ranks (total 40 now)
Traits: because of Bluff now being a class skill, I swapped the Fiend Blood trait for Armor Expert
Slayer Talents: swapped out Surprise Attack for Ranger Combat Style (Two-Handed Style) to work Furious Focus into the build.

Silver Crusade

Female Elf Warpriest (Wasp Zealot) 4 / Magus (Spire Defender) 1 / Evangelist 2 HP 49/49 | AC 21 | T 17 | FF 16 | CMD 18 | Fort +8 | Ref +5| Will +10 | Init +2 | Perc + 7

Adonara's been updated to include the latest revisions: fervour looks neat, and she now hits a bit harder with a whip, but I decided to mess around as little as possible with her feats.

I hope they feel better soon; take care of you and yours.

Female Human Swashbuckler 5 (click for sheet)

Mark, do you mind revealing the result of Valerya's turn of actions? I mean, did she face damage reduction or did she miss the creature's AC? Did the Intimidate work?

Normally I wouldn't bother you with these questions, but I'd like to have a good notion of this class' efficacy specially considering we're facing one of the few creatures immune to her major damage ability.

Minor Crab-beast

Sorry - when I describe 'hitting, but deflecting off armor / skin' it's mechanically a miss - but was due to armor bonus.

So no, no hit in this case; and my read on your actions was that the intimidate was dependent on hitting? - so no hit = no intimidate attempt.

Ok ok, good to know :)

OK, this class is a PBP nightmare. How do you guys think the Dodging Panache would interact with the current situation?

Valerya spent 1 panache and 1 attack of opportunity to try and deflect the blow, but it failed (meaning she didn't get to spend the second panache and immediate action to try the riposte). She still may use Dodging Panache to try and dodge the attack.

Dodging Panache (Ex):
At 1st level, when an opponent attempts a melee attack against the swashbuckler, she can spend 1 panache point to move 5 feet as an immediate action; doing so grants the swashbuckler a bonus to AC equal to her Charisma bonus against the triggering attack. This movement doesn’t negate the attack, which is still resolved as if the swashbuckler was in the original square. This movement is not a 5-foot step; it provokes attacks of opportunity from creatures other than the one who triggered this deed. The swashbuckler can only perform this deed while wearing light or no armor, and while carrying no more than a light load.

So she could spend 1 other panache and her immediate action to add 3 to her AC.

Minor Crab-beast

In my opinion you would have to choose whether you attempt to dodge or riposte - and not do both on the same attack.

I agree and think that does make sense (and will use it like that for this playtest), but apparently you could use both on a single attack (I even posted on the appropriate thread so people could try and figure that out). This needs some polishing ASAP.

Minor Crab-beast

So, t'would appear that the playtest is gone and done - and I apologize for not being the greatest guide this last month or so. Unfortunately my best spirits were hamstrung by a rapid uptick in work and various daycare plagues unleashed upon the family.

I'm thinking it best therefore to shut down the two groups and have the PbPs fade to black. Thanks for taking the time to tinker, and I hope you got a bit of fun at least from the character creation - if not from the particularly underwhelming Dark Menagerie.
